So says MT... ...could this be the start of what we all wanted? I mean Hainsey is staying in the lineup, Bulis is on the first line, Markov is playing 25 minutes per game, Ribeiro is playing and now Hossa gets a chance on the 2nd line and it looks like this will be more than a 2-3 game trial. Slowly but surely youth is being added it seems. Did AS pressure MT in playing them? is this just another phase in AS's master plan? The Habs may never admit it, but this is starting to look like the dreaded ''r'' word that ends with ''ding''....the word Montreal fans were supposed to never accept when most of them have been crying for it for years! Hossa is one of the best prospects of the organization and he has earned this chance. Every report from Hamilton was very good, he has good hands around the net and he shields the puck well. He will play on an offensive line against the Devils. If only we were winning games, this would be a great time to be a Habs fan!

I really hope Hossa can step it up physicaly. I don't want to see another Rosie clone.
The kid has the tools, now all he has to do is get it in his mind to work and push himself. I believe that he has it in him. Maybe the AHL bored him.
I wonder if they are going to try him out with the first line? He will be as useless as tits on a bull if they waste him on the fourth line. He is NOT a grinder. He is NOT a hitter. He is a 2 way player that loves the transition (attack) game.

I don't know about MT or Savard, but I DO know our posts are read by some people in very interesting places. One can only imagine what they are thinking while reading our gibberish. Yes, I know that I am talking in riddles...................and don't ask. got some inside info there HA? ;D Hopefully Marcel can become about half of what Marian is...I'd take 25-30 goals from him each year for sure

Yep, I've heard from other people in high places (again, don't ask or I'll have to kill you) that Saddam reads us religiously. In fact, we're so popular in the palace that Bush is going to take out CO's site (and you thought CO was Clear Observer when it's actually Commanding Officer all this time) when he attacks, to avoid giving Saddam any enjoyment. A closet hockey fan....yep. And a secret contributor to GG's coffers. There...if we had any legitimacy before, I think this should blow it to smithereens. .

Did AS pressure MT in playing them? is this just another phase in AS's master plan? Master plan ? What makes you think there is one ? And what makes you think it isn't the other way around, maybe MT has finally convinced AS that the oldies on big money contracts aren't good enough to get it done, and that we need those talented kids on the team. We just can't know.

Master plan ? What makes you think there is one ? when AS came on board in 2000-01...he talked about a 3 or 5 year plan(can't remember) to get the habs back to a contender..

He also said he wanted to have a 19-20 year old on the team every year, and proceeded to overload the team with veterans. So what he says to the press doesn't exactly mean much IMO. Nothing wrong with that, BTW, no GM should have all his cards visible to all. But there's little proof of a "plan" to date, IMO.

I'm certainly glad to see some kids getting a shot, but I fear it's more out of necessity than good planning. Gilmour could be out longer than expected and Dykhuis simply played himself out of a job. The history has been to bring a kid like Hossa up, put him on a 4th line with a bunch of plumbers and demote him when he doesn't score right away. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see Therrien keeping Hossa on the 2nd line for any lenght of time and I highly doubt he'll see much ice-time in the 3rd period. The only silverlining I see is that Chow wasn't the one re-called. That leaves some room for optimism when it comes to the idea of a youth movement.

little proof, but some evidence. he said there was a plan. and by drafting very well the first part of the plan is already underway, signing these other players was just to fill the gap, and we wouldn't question this if his gambles had paid off (audette, berezin, and czerkawski scoring). audette makes the least sense because of his long term contract, but what he saw was a veteran that could score for us (although he would still be around for years to come a team needs more than JUST youth to win), and picking him up for rosie who was going to leave looked like a good move to him at the time. i don't think the second phase of his plan was supposed to start until 2004-05 (when gilmour, mckay, quintal, dykhuis, czerkawski, etc. would be gone), but the progress of hossa and hainsey was unexpected, and re-emergence of ward and gratton wasn't even in the plan, leaving him with good players in the minors and no spots on the team. i still think this team will be young, very talented, and a playoff shoe in come '05, but right now he has problems. i just hope he can deal few veterans so players like hainsey, hossa, ward, and gratton can play full time soon. although i dont think AS has any confidence in ward and gratton still for some reason... i think they'd be great 4th line material (see where ward can go from there, gratton's just too small to play a top line role IMO).

as for MT petitioning for the kids to get a shot, i just don't see him as that type of a coach. i might be underestimating him, i've been wrong before. his past moves haven't made me think he is kean on the young players (benching hainsey, markov (last year), ribeiro. giving them limited playing time while others like audi, previously dykhuis and last year robidas and bouillon get the ice).

Well, it was Therrien who publicly was on the verge of a breakdown when Savard ordered him to carry some geezer over Gratton (who had earned a spot) coming out of camp in 2001.
Hard to tell precisely what the club's mandate is this year. Last year, before the first puck was dropped, Savard assured one-and-all that the club *was* going to make the playoffs. What's a coach to do under those circumstances, go with the peach-fuzz or the graybreads? Whichever alternative gives you the best chance to keep your job. Is that short-term gain for long-term pain?
Is it possible to make the playoffs with a rookie laden lineup? What are the odds? What do the fans want? What does the media want? Above all, what does George "Steppin' Razor" Gillet want? Money (roster) for money (playoff dates) = The Bind.
But hey, now that the old folks are falling like trees we'll get to see the kids. Who said there wasn't a plan?
