Here's a few "rough" moves i would make to attempt to make the Habs a better club for the remaining of the 2002-03 season....keeping the future in consideration as well:
Trade #1: Mariusz Czerkawski + Karl Dykhuis to Chicago for Boris Mironov + 5th in 2004
Trade #2: Donald Audette to NY Rangers for Ronald Petrovicky
Waive, and if they clear waivers demote Bill Lindsay and Sylvain Blouin
Recall Benoit Gratton and Jason Ward
Offer contract extension to either Jeff Hackett or Mathieu Garon. Right now we stand to lose both goalies for nothing this off-season, so AS has to start working on keeping at least one. If we re-sign Hack, then losing Garon doesn't hurt. Likewise, Garon might be interested in re-signing with the Habs if we make it clear that Hackett will walk after this season.
That leaves us with...
Chad Kilger-Saku Koivu-Richard Zednik
Doug Gilmour-Yanic Perreault-Randy McKay
Jan Bulis-Joe Juneau-Andreas Dackell
Ronald Petrovicky-Benoit Gratton-Jason Ward
Petrov, Ribeiro
Andrei Markov-Craig Rivet
Patrick Traverse-Patrice Brisebois
Boris Mironov-Stephane Quintal
Bouillon (*Souray takes Traverse' spot when healthy)
Jose Theodore
Hackett/Garon
This off-season, we let Petrov, Gilmour and Mironov go as UFA's and bring up Hainsey, Hossa and possibly a UFA forward.
Thoughts? I know its nothing too radical, but i prefer this lineup. We are basically a 3 line team right now, so better to have a "spark" 4th line that can go out there and give it their 110% for 8-10 minutes a night. I believe Mironov is a right side d-man, so not sure how he can adapt to playing the other side, but i like his size and when he's on his game he could easily be one of our top 4 d-men.
