Now...I am amazed at the names on the Habs back then
Roy in goal
Chelios, Robinson, Green, Ludwig, Svoboda, Lumme on defence
Smith, Carbo, Skrudland and some guy named Thibodeau at center
Corson, Lemieux, Richer, Courtnall, McPhee, Walter, Keane, Brunet on the wings
With Mats Naslund and Bob Gainey injured
No wonder that team went to the finals!

It's amazing you guys still tolerate the mediocrety we get served now. It really is. Those teams were just unreal Why did it have to go away? friggin incompetence Once a Habs fan, always a Habs fan! You always have a hope that some day, some way .. the magic can be rekindled! For this to happen, the Habs brass are gonna have to follow through on a couple of our ideas (which by now, are common knowledge) But it's difficult when you were brought up watching guys like Gainey, Robinson, the flower, Cournoyer, Shutt, Savard, Lemaire, Lapointe, etc...and then later on...Carbonneau, Walter, Skrudland, McPhee, Naslund, Chelios, and one of my all time favorites ..Chris Nilan ... for obvious reasons... and then you can start talking about coaching...Starting with Bowman...and on...times have changed. It's too bad...I personnally feel bad for the younger generation who haven't had to opportunity to watch these great teams play. Try and catch as many as these games on TV as you can...they were great games played by great teams. That is why they ARE the Dynasty of Hockey. The love for the team doesn't die because of stupid managers or coaches, but it makes you mad as hell. Cheers,

That was Guy's first game back at the Forum vs the Habs. I remember watching that at the Peel Pub. He was quite for a long time, then he split the D and scored on Roy and added another one later. Pure euphoria, eh? And the Habs won the game. Perfect.

Welcome aboard dude
I dunno if it was Guy's first game back...Sam Rosen kept saying the Rangers had already been to the forum that year...maybe Lafleur did not play in the first game?

Ahh, the days of a 21 team league, where rosters wern't diluted with guys who didn't have the skill to play.
The 89 team, IMO, was better than the 87 winning team. They just ran up against an equally talented Calgary team with just as many horses. The way they played against Philly in the Semi was classic. Pat Burn's first year, and they dominated. They played air tight, and Chelios was unbelievable, prompting Hextall to blow a fuse!!!
The good ole days.....

I seem to recall he had a broken foot or something that year? Anyone else remember? I know he showed up at the game just wearing his Rangers jersey and gave the crowd a wave that had the patrons of the Forum on their feet.
