Stan claims that Hackett told him today that he will be traded for sure. Stan made it sound as though the deal is already done and they are just waiting for after the holiday season to announce it. Then again, I think Stan has a nasty hallucinagenic habit....

Fischler doesn't strike me as the type of guy who desparately wants to be in the know but he is definitely "out there " with some of his columns.
Who knows, maybe Hackett has just mentioned what he has been saying all along - that he knows he is going to get moved eventually.

Why would Hackett know about this?
and where would he be going?

Why would Hackett know about this? and where would he be going? I think Stan is just reading to much into a conversation he had with Jeff. Hackett has been saying all year long that he is expecting to be moved. There was nothing said about where he would be going. It was more about wondering what that would do to the trade market in regards to Osgood. As far as I'm concerned Stan the man makes Al Strachan look credible.

Boston.
Unless O'connel and Savard have decided to bite the bullet and do a deal, I can't see anybody else being remotely interested right now. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hackett here when the deadline comes and goes....

Stan Fishler is a pretty creditable journalist. And you're right JKR, Fishler doesn't play the "enquiring minds want to know" scenario.
If you notice Hack these days, he doesn't do a lot of smiling and is looking rather serious most of the time. I find him even moreso when he's addressing the media. I'd like to hold on to him, sign him, and have the best goaltending tandem in hockey, but that's just wishing for something.
However, I'm hoping Hack didn't say this to Fishler in confidence. You always take your chances when talking to the media. I could care less who the journalist is, there's no "let's talk off the record for a moment" with any of these guys. Once they get a scoop, or a perception of a scoop, it represents groceries and mortgage payments for many of them.
However, I don't think this is the case here. Hack has said publicly earlier in the season that he figures his tenure in Montreal is coming to an end. And if it's Stan Fishler reporting, I'll bet there's a measure of credibility it.
Cheers.

I would take this with a grain of salt for sure...

If Stan says it's going to be a beautiful sunny day, I bring an umbrella along just in case. Not only is Fishler not in the know, but he doesn't understand hockey. Fishler is to hockey reporting what Mario Tremblay is to hockey coaching. (and vise versa)

Never knew that HFLA. I remember reading Fischler in The Hockey News back in the 80's. He always seemed to be an objective NY-style reporter. I never really had a problem with him to tell you the truth, buds.
But, then people have a problem with SI's, Montreal-based Michael Farber. He may have his moments like most of us do, but Farber is by far one of the most objective sports writers I've read.
And, yet again, there are those who think Jack Todd is a straight shooter who is on the mark.
Depends on your perception I reckon. Cheers.

I'v seen Stan on plenty of Center Ice brodcasts and I have come to dread seeing his face on the tube. I haven't been at all impressed with him in a long time. I agree with you on Farber Dis. I really like him in print and the odd occasion he is on Sattelite Hotstove of The Habs This Week. Another thing I have noticed on Center ice is the Sabres duo of Rick Jennorette and Jim Lorentz. These two clowns are possibly the biggest "homers" I have ever seen. I refuse to watch an Empire brodcast anymore unless the Habs are playing because these two are so bad. Plus I can't stand when grown men squeal like little girls. Just thinking about them.....I think I'm gonna SNAP....

Stan Fischler. Yech. I will read pretty much any hockey related book you put in front of me. But my fiancee knows if it says Stan or Shirley Fischler, I'll be returning it. Never could stand his writing. Its even worse when he opens his mouth. To him, Flyers goon-fest in the mid seventies was the pinnacle of hockey. What a complete joke. One of my favourite all-time moments in hockey is the 4 game sweep in the 76 finals (tell me again how a guy from the losing squad that gets swept wins the Conn Smythe??? I don't care how many goals he scored...)

A NY Ranger fan is someone who lives in the Bronx or Manhattan, can afford to buy the MSG network but can't afford to go to NY Yankees or Nicks games. Everything that costs money is good and Sather was the next coming. The three wise men were Jesus, Pope John, and George Steinbrenner. When Fishler was interviewed on TV he was about as savy as Barbra Streisand with the NY attitude to match. Nothing personal, but if you believed Stan was right, the Rangers would have won the last five Stanely Cups. Each year after they obtained Messier or Gretzky or Sather or Fleury or Lindros or Holik they were shooins to win it all. Nothing personal, but I think Fishler is a distant second to any writer he is compared to.

Fishler writes from a NY-area perspective (Isles, Rangers, Devils) more than any one team. He has a tendency to suck up to all the teams in the region.
Yanks nosebleeds are 8$.

aren't noosebleed seats for yankees like 10$? The Yankees call them nosebleed tickets because you always get mugged in the South Bronx on the way from the subway to the stadium. I've been to Yankee Stadium three times, once to a non-memorable Yankee game, once to see the Giants play Cleveland, and once to see Pele play against Esubio (best game of all). I've seen the Rangers at MSG and vaguely saw some tiny figures way off in the distance. (I think they were playing hockey but they were too far away to make out. That must be how Stan Fishler see's it too.

Best sportswriter ever, "Ted Blackman"! Runners up, Red Fisher and Todd (sorry but I like him). I'm not a homer. I live in Los Angeles. Ted was the best in print and the worst on the air.

I've seen the Rangers at MSG and vaguely saw some tiny figures way off in the distance. (I think they were playing hockey but they were too far away to make out. Completely and utterly untrue... the last row of the Garden is about the same distance from the ice as the first row of the whites in the Bell Centre... I was shocked how close I was even while walking around the top ring, behind the last rows. It's a smaller arena, very comparable in size to the old Forum. Very, very good (close) seats no matter where you are (though I wouldn't suggest sitting in 401 or 428; unless you don't want to see the goalie closest to you, of course.

RR;
I found that the slope wasn't steep enough and it made everyone far asway as well as watching the head of the people in front of them. The Forum was great in that regard.

the slope could be a little steeper, that is true... but it's not a big arena, even if the cap is 18.2.
