Does CDN cable carry ESPN Classic?
I was in heaven last night... 1979 Stanley Cup semi-finals, Habs/Bruins, Game 7.
The action was definitely a step slower than today's game, the players were smaller (there seemed to be more room out there), and there wasn't as much of the crazy forechecking, cycling that you see today. The action was much more fluid, with an emphasis on passing and positional hockey. Today's style of goaltending is leaps and bounds ahead. Goalies are so athletic now. Ken Dryden wouldn't make it today - he looked slow.
The player I noticed the most was Larry Robinson. He was a force on offense and defense. He wasn't a particularly fast skater, but he just seemed to be able to stickhandle his way ("gingerly", of course, as Danny Gallivan would say) up the ice.

Even though I walked 10 miles to school through 20 foot high snowdrifts in 60 degree below zero weather; things seemed better back then.....LOL ;D

Are you kidding? Can you imagine him with the huge pads they have today? His GAA would be about 0.87. He's one of the fastest big men I've ever seen.

May 10, 1979. Don Cherry's last game as the Bruin's head coach. He often attributed Guy Lafleur's game-tying goal as the goal that ended his tenure in Boston. However, later on, he admitted that wasn't the case.
The winner of that game/series would have won the Cup. Nice setup by Mario Tremblay in OT.
Cheers.
