I don't think it's clear to anyone what Ribs is suppose to achieve with his 6mins of icetime and his being benched every 2-3 games... His role on the team has been made really marginal. It looks like "...Just get out there and make sure nobody scores against your line... cause if they do you'll skip next game...". Ribs looks totally lost and useless and like the other thread suggests, maybe he asked his agent to see if there is a way to get out of Montreal to get a real chance somewhere.
Well I don't know what they are telling him, but I agree, it seems that he plays unless a goal is scored against his line then he sits. Whatever is the case, it's working so far as he has faired better in his own end, but does look lost out there. I always thought he looked lost in his own end anyway, but playing on eggshells is a tough way to go about it. That said, he must get better in his own end. Lots of young players have trouble with the play in their own end or away from the puck even, so it's not like he cannt continue to work on this, but if he gets better in his own end, who knows what he can do, as we've all seen his abilities with the puck.
Right now he's averaging over 7 1/2 minutes a game in the 10 games he's played (per espn.com) which sounds about right for a 4th line. He's had some good games, and some not so good, but the thing I really like about him is that he has progressed each year. Over the last 3 years, he's gotten bigger (still needs help here), he's gotten faster (will always need help here), and he's gotten better in his own end (needs the most improvement here). If he continues improving, he could be a good player, but it's up to him to get it done. It's tough on us fans, as he shows flashes of what he can do with the puck, then the next game, he'll make a glarring mistake in his own end that will leave you just shaking your head.
I will say, I've seen some good things from the 4th line, and there's some real good skill on offence when you roll out Petrov Ribeiro Audette/Chow. I saw the other night, Ribs made a real good pass to Audette, and he missed of course, but after the play he went over to Mike and gave him a pat with his stick and a nod. (most likely saying, yea I suck, but that was a good pass junior)
