i found this web site through a lonk over at HF and thought it would be worth discussing what may happen next year for our Habs. www.geocities.com/floridapanthers2000/free2003.htmlMONTREAL Doug Gilmour, (III) Jeff Hackett, (III) Bill Lindsay, (III) Jan Bulis, (II) Mike Ribeiro, (II) Jason Ward, (II) as mentioned on the page it may not be 100 percent accurate but should be pretty close and if there's any changes to our list feel free to confirm. Here's my thought's on our list ..................Holy crap it's short. I can't remember the last time we have had so little signing concern's over the summer considering the group III's really don't need to and most likely won't be signed and The group II's should have no problem being resigned at a minimal cost. It could be a summer where we see a serious kick at a real UFA or a good trade since AS won't be nearly as busy as previous season's. some interesting names ............. Shawn Mceachern magnus arvedson Sandy Mccarthy Dave Karpa Chris Simon Sergei Federov(hey imagination is fun) Derren McCarty Kris Draper

You forgot Petrov who has a player option which he will decline.
Hossa replaces Gilmour Ward replaces Lindsay Garon or another backup replaces Hackett
Now...for the other UFA's, McCarty and Simon are 2 guys I would be interested in:
Zed-Koivu-Czerk Hossa-Perreault-Audette/Petrov(one of them will go) Bulis-Juneau-Dackell McCarty/Simon-Ribeiro-McKay Ward as a spare forward
The defence? hopefully Hainsey gets more experience this year and we can bring along Komi next year
Souray-Brisebois Hainsey-Rivet Markov-Komisarek
Traverse as 7th
Deal Kilger and Dykhuis to whoever wants them.

First time poster here.
I would imagine that Savard will make a pitch for McCarty if the Red Wings don't get him resigned. He's a typical Savard pickup in that he's effective, not too expensive and has lots of experience. Overall it seems like a poor year for UFAs. After Leetch and Fedorov there are no star players available. Its mostly a bunch of grinders and stay at home defensemen as far as I can tell.

As one of the moderators I'd like to ask you to please read the Code of Conduct post above what was created by the Board Administrator, Clear Observer. McCarty would help any club including our own. I'd like to see Savard make a pitch for him as well, as landing him would be a step in the right direction. Anyway, best of posting to you. Cheers.

Since we are on the topic of UFA's next year, does anyone know what the status is of these players,
Odjick ( I think his contract is over this year?) Chouinard Descoteaux Gratton O'Dette I know one of Gratton/O'dette signed for 2 years and the other was 1 year Garon will be a RFA or UFA most likely UFA Ryder Dackell did he sign for 2 years Kilger

Odjick: signed a 3 year deal before last year. So we must pay him next year as well Chouinard: no idea Descotaux: see Chouinard Gratton: I think he signed the 1 year deal O'Dette: the 2 year deal Garon: UFA if he doesn't play 12 games in the NHL Ryder: no clue Dackell: yes he signed a 2 year extension Kilger:??

Thanks. Ashame about Gino, but we might not have to pay him, depending on what the courts say, I guess. So that leaves Chouinard, Descoteaux, Ryder, Garon, Kilger. I think Chewy, Descoteaux and Ryder will be RFA's at the end of the season, but I'm not sure. Maybe Landry as well. Garon and Gratton will need a contract at the end of the year, and I don't know about Kilger. Plus prospects, Archer, Milroy, Himelfarb, and maybe Shasby will have to be signed as well. Actually, I think we have a full year on Shasby who is a senior this year, but I think you have until the next year to sign them. If so then Craig Murray would need to be signed this summer, if he's in the plans, which I doubt he is.

Plus guys like Perezhogin and Higgins who could be signed to pro contracts... I'd be shocked if Perezhogin comes over, but that would be great news for sure. ;D But I did forget Higgins, as it seems he could be brought in next year. And theres also longshot goalie Vadim Tarasov who is still a RFA, and if we lose both Hack and Garon, maybe Savard tries hard to get him to come back over. Plus Fichaud is on a 1 yr with another year at the teams option I think.

They are going to have to bring Perezhogin over eventually..why not next year if they think he is too good for the Russian elite league?

I have read that he isn't that interested in coming over any time soon. And I think he would be better off playing on a top line in the RSL then Hamilton. Now I for one, would be thrilled to see Perezhogin here next year, but I don't think it will happen, IMO.

Marc, Gino signed a 2 year deal before last season. This is the last year of his deal. I remember it specifically because I loathed the fact that we would have Gino with us for 2 more years when the deal was announced. i was damn pissed and made my feelings known many times over at fanhome.
That is really when I started questioning Savard and his moves. ;D

Tkachuk re-signed with the Blues before the season started. Got Guerin kind of money so no luck.
