Its now 130am, after a night of partying it up with some girls, and post-habs vs bruins drivel. Myself and my roommate who is from montreal and grew up with the habs watched the habs game and were not all that excited about what we saw.
Except for 2 players: markov and koivu. These two guys are "superstars" on a good team, but on this team standout and must feel like they're being left out. Kilger on the top line is a joke. As much as other people on this board like it, and he is playing well, he is NOT a 1st liner on any decent team.
Back to the point, me and my habs fan roommate kept saying about how the canucks are so much more "exciting" to watch. Its true, the habs/bruins game vs the canucks/oilers game was like comparing a regular season game to a playoff game. I'm lucky to be living in vancouver right now because they are the most explosive exciting, best team in hockey.
Meanwhile i'm supposed to get excited about a habs team that is borderline average at best in the excitement department.
All i see are: koivu, markov and a few others good, therrien and a few others bad.
They have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooooooo many 3rd liners on this team.

A few observations:
Kilger's doing a nice imitation of a front-line player, what with 4 goals in 4 games....
The Habs will win another Cup before the Nucks get their first.
Koivu, Zednick, Markov, Hackett, Rivet, Bulis, Juneau, Gilmour, and lately, Mckay, have all been a pleasure to watch.
Sounds like a bad night if you started out "partying with some girls" and ended up on HabsRus.... ;D

If the Bruins can get red hot with Mike Knuble, a 4th liner, playing with Thornton and Murray...the Habs can definitely do well with Kilger playing with Z and K.
It's not about having the most talent on one line...it's having the best combination of player styles on one line. You can't just go with skill,skill,skill...you need some muscle and size to round out a line and Kilger brings that.

true, but he's not a true first line power forward ala: doan, leclair, tkachuk, bertuzzi and the list goes on. he's filling the void and doing a good job of it though. I just think that we can't expect too much offense from him. Playing with koivu and zednik will definetly increase his stats and chances, but he's not a true first liner on 90% of teams.

I think that is more sad than not having one at all...dontcha think. Things you do when you've had a bottle and a half of white wine.

Man a Bertuzzi-Koivu-Zednik would be simply unreal....oh to dream...

I think that is more sad than not having one at all...dontcha think. Absolutely. Although, in my experience, no girl is better than the wrong girl....or the wrong kind of girl, or a girl who only looks like a girl but who was in the Queens own Rifles in her youth, or a girl whose boyfriend is downstairs wearing a balaclava and brandishing a k-bar, or a girl whose father is the local chapter president of the NRA, if you know what I mean....

A few observations: Kilger's doing a nice imitation of a front-line player, what with 4 goals in 4 games.... Agreed. Not long ago I was saying I liked Kilger, but wanted him to keep it. He's been keeping i up, and I'm happy. IMO he'll never be a bona fide 1st liner, but he's a perfect guy to plug in on a 1st line to add size with speed, and he can also be bumped down to a defensive line to help contain big opposition players. ie: he's looking like a keeper. Still 4 games do not a career make. But now if he's taken off that top line, we have to question MT's judgment, not Kilgers play.

i donno about how "exciting" the canucks games are compared to the recent habs games. our boys have been scoring a lot more, and getting more shots lately, and it's made the games much more exciting. i also live in bc (van isle) and get to see al the nucks games... i find the habs games just as exciting, partially because i'm not a big nucks fan and can't get into their games. but if the habs games were in english, with good announcers (not pierre mcguire) that might add to the excitement of the broadcast a bit.

Habs are on TSN Tuesday by the way I am sure you can't wait to hear that great theme song of their's and the mastermind of NHL hockey, Pierre McGuire

I caught about half of the Nucks/Oilers game (was subjected to the Leaves/Rangers game earlier). While I really enjoy the Habs because of this heartstring thing, I have to admit I've seen the Canucks play several games which were technically and emotionally much superior to the best the Habs have put together. The Canucks are one tough opponent these days. They have the dangerous 1st line, an ok second line with some scoring potential (the Sedins and Trent Klatt), a very strong checking line of Chubarov, LInden and Cooke and a mish mash 4th line with Letowski, Lindgren and whoever. Very solid defense and Cloutier has exorcised his demons. Last night's game against the Oilers was a treat. Edmonton is renowned for their speed, but it they had no edge on the Canucks. In fact, they often couldn't break out normally because of the speed of the Canuck backcheckers.
In their previous game against Calgary (which they lost as the puck just wouldn't go in for them, hitting everything in front but the kitchen sink), they had one stretch where they played 2 1/2 minutes inside the Calgary zone with no play stoppage. They changed lines 3 times and kept control inside the Calgary zone. And they weren't playing the Habs! Twas very impressive. The crowd gave them a standing ovation. Too bad you guys can't see their games against the good Western teams. It really shows up the current talent difference between the East and West. There's a definite difference in speed. The East has to do something about improving that part of the game.

Thats my best Pierre McGuire impersonation. ;D since that's all he ever seems to say. As for the Nucks, yea there good. It helps having 2 great players on the team though. Naslund is unreal, and Bert's the PF every team in the league is looking for. I never liked there coach though, of course he's better then MT, but I'm not a Crawford fan. Nucks are one team that has been built through solid trades. Look at the Naslund and Bert deals, wow. Talk about steals, yikes !

Naslund for Alek Stojanov Bertuzzi AND McCabe for Linden Morrisson and Pederson for Mogilny and Jovo, Weekes, Mike Brown for Bure/Ferrence Simply amazing deals...was it Quinn who got Naslund and Bertuzzi? as for Pierre Mac...''whammo'' and getting ''engaged in 1 on 1 battles''...LOL and that stupid theme song...''oh oh...fire it up...everybody wants that silver cup...are you tuff enough...but it's more than just a gaaaaaaaaaaaaaame''
