Basically he says Habs are going in the right direction and they will build with the draft+FA's Doesn't blame AS for picing up Audi and Czercrapski(is he bashing MT here?) Happy with his goaltending. Happy to have Hack around+Theo works hard and will come out of it

Savard is on the right track. Some things haven't worked out as well as they might've, but then again some of his acquisitions have exceeded expectations (notably, Juneau, Dackell, Gilmour and Perreault, much as I hate the latter).
Two years from now there'll be enough evidence to make an informed and fair judgement of Savard. And the reason for that is that when the main objective is long term (and it is) he's entitled to the benefit of enough time for some of that part of the picture to take shape. If you just look at the current roster, he gets a grade of "C", at best. But it's the rosters next year and the year after that'll really tell the tale, along with the health of the farm system. Gillet is no dumby. He understands that if Savard can keep the team competitive (in the hunt for a playoff spot) during these years which could've been really, really, lean, that's very good news, because Savard's real strength, and the future strength of the organization, lies in the draft.

I'm sure AS feels comforted with GG giving him a vote of confidence. Sayyyyyy....isn't that usually when you're in the greatest danger? Personally, I think AS will be around for a while, but I'd feel better if the pats on the back were coming from Sam Pollock or the ghost of Frank Selke.

One thing Gillett said in the interview was along the line of "...it's great that Savard got us so many good players. Maybe now we have too many good players... It's a different problem..."
Obviously GG is NOT happy about guys making 3mil sitting in the press box while being perfectly healthy...

Doc, I have the article in front of me...he is talking about our prospects doing so well which adds depth to the organization but also creates a problem because it puts pressure on the organization to bring them up. Nothing about the current situation on the big team. Then he says AS is a brilliant GM, perhaps he is doing too much of a good job!!

Yup well said. In Savard we trust for our future Hey Marc, how are those ankles of yours doing ? Jumping off and on bandwagons has to be rough on them ankles, and you seem to change every time the Habs have 2 wins or 2 losses in a row....

Well spoken JV. (I always say that when folks agree with me....) But seriously I think that you make a good point. The court will convene for judgement after the 2004/05 season....if Savard lasts that long. It otta be quite a show. BC, Doc, PTH, JV, Marc, etc all in red robes with white wigs. I want a group picture of that.
I would add Zednik and Bulis to JV's list of aquisitions exceeding expectations. I, at least, wasn't convinced that these guys would pan out as good as they have. I had hopes that they would but I didn't think that it was a sure thing. Now Zednik looks like he might well become a real first line winger, ie a 35 goal plus big effort when it counts guy, and Bulis a solid LW, maybe even a 2nd liner. Zubris, meanwhile, has fallen upon hard times (21 games, 3 goals, 7 points) and Linden is gone. I wonder how the guy(s) who the Caps got for Linden are doing?

I don't know if it was AS that picked up Kilger, but I think he has been a great addition to the first line.

So what if GG let some reporter "Savard is good, Therrien is good, sunny days are good, no lint in your belly button is good. (steal a line here, steal a line there..).
Did you expect him to question Savard in public? The Hab’s depend on ticket sales to survive and no owner in his right mind will diss his employees. But behind closed doors………<br> When will you guys look at these fluff pieces with a jaundice eye? *sigh*

II wonder how the guy(s) who the Caps got for Linden are doing? It was a first rounder in the 2002 draft. I believe they drafted Boyd Gordon with it MyHabit--yes AS acquired Kilger for Zholtok at the start of his tenure

Hey! Prince Something Von Something is satisfied with Zaa Zaa Gabor. Tom Arnold married Rosanne Barr. Everyone eventually settles for something. There is no accounting for taste. I'm not satisfied with AS or MT. I was a big AS fan for a long time and we gave him a shot but his continued support of MT, the size of our team, getting outshot 9 out of 10 games including expansion teams, soft forwards, softer defense, inflated payroll?? MT is the last straw.

GG hasn't learn how to be a REAL habs fan yet. bitch after every lose, bitch after ever win, bitch about every tie. we're lucky GG isn't like the above mentioned hab fans or he would of replaced team presidents twice, gm's five or six times, and coaches on a weekly basis. ;D

If your satisfied with being a middle of the road franchise, with the greatness of the past being just a memory. Then AS and MT are doing a fine job. If you want to return the habs to their rightful spot in the NHL then AS and MT must go.

If your satisfied with being a middle of the road franchise, with the greatness of the past being just a memory. Then AS and MT are doing a fine job. If you want to return the habs to their rightful spot in the NHL then AS and MT must go. So who replaces them? How do they turn the team around? How do you go from one of the worst seasons every to competeing with Stars/Wings? Me, I like Savar, I like him a lot. Why you ask, cause he took a really crappy team that was very painful to watch, and in 1 1/2 years he turned them into a playoff contending team. That was very impressive too me. Maybe I am just satisfied with seeing a crappy team go from bottom to middle in a very short time frame. I think it takes years, to turn it around all the way, and so far, it's been much better then I expected. Who knows what will happen in the future, but I bet Savard stays on as GM for a few years. His drafting has been very good, and his trades aren't bad either. I like the direction we are going in, and look forward to see what happens years down the road.
