I’m following the habs from far away (Tanzania) so I didn’t see any of the games of course but i can see from your reports guys that the habs are underachieving. I feel concerned enough this send you this rant. I know our D is not that great, but do you know what our rank is in terms of GA… 29th !!!! Same for the penalty killing and the PP isn’t really clicking either. What the heck!
So my existential question is: Why is Michel Therrien still there? Jodoin has been an assistant coach before with us and with limited talent we were able to have a decent PP (between 10th and 15th if I recall). Charron ran the PK for Anaheim and they were 7th in the league. Green? That guy deserves some criticism as well.
But Therrien? From day 1, no one was thrilled, everyone had doubts about him. He doesn’t have anything going for him:
1- Respect from the players: Veterans players critized him openly before (ex: Juneau). Therrien never played in the NHL, he is not the only one, but I think he’s the youngest at 38. Gee, Gilmour is older than him. If he was brilliant, this could be forgotten, but…<br>2- Technical capacities. Let’s be serious. I have never heard anyone, not even his “chouchou” like Bouillon and Robidas, telling us how much they learned from Therrien in Junior or in the AHL. If he is a good technician, it’s the best kept secret in the NHL
3- Leadership: Apparently, he could throw water bottles in the junior leagues and it had an impact. Everytime we hear the players talking about a good meeting, it was either because A- it was a players meeting, no coaches or B- Savard went into the dressing room. I think last year the players rallied around Saku. This year, they look like a disorganized bunch. We already more than 90 GA, don’t tell me we are playing like a team.
Since Savard is unlikely to trade, first because he doesn’t want to trade good picks or prospects (he’s right), second because no one want Audette at 3 millions or Chow at 2,6, it leaves two opportunities for a shake-up. 1- Injuries so we call up some new blood to change the chemistry of this team or 2- FIRE THE COACH. I feel option 2 is a must if we want to make the playoffs this year… and now would be the right time. Could we really find worst? I’ll go on top of the Kilimanjaro to ask the wise man there to identify our new coach…
