Listening to the Hot Stove League tonight and that master of Prognostication, Al Strachan, suggested that there are 2 coaches on the endangered species list right now (and MT's not one of them!). They are Bruce Cassidy in Washington and (gulp), Bob Hartley in Denver.
Ok. Now, if, just if, this is true, I will forgive AS for not planting Mt in boot hill. The big question is, how long do you tolerate it before you install Charron as interim coach. (BTW Charron is not winless at every level. He won the World Juniour Championship). If I'm not mistaken, he hasn't exactly coached any elite teams (Anaheim comes to mind). Anyway, for a few weeks, he'd be ok.
I think I could tolerate Bob Hartley as coach. ;D

I heard this to & find it hard to believe. I know from Robinson's experience that winning a Cup guarantees nothing but Hartley is only about 18 months removed from winning a championship.
What I find interesting is the polls on TSN and other sites - who will be the next coach fired. I haven't seem Therrien's name yet. I guess Hartley's name is on these polls because of the expectations in Colorado. Dallas is pulling away while the Avs sit around 500.

If it makes you feel any better, Gary Green was questioning MT's effectiveness as the Habs coach during the NHL Network's preview of tonights game. He pointed out some aphalling Habs stats:
Shots against: (34.0 / game) = 30th Shots for: (24.6 / game) = 30th Goals Against (87) = 28th Penalty Kill = 30th

I liked that segment. Nice job Green ;D
Get Hartley here if he is canned. There's a coach who trusts youngsters.

As for his WJC, well Therrien won a Memorial cup when no one thought that he could since the O and W were winning them all the time. I would also pass on Hartley. When I watch him on the bench, he isn't beeming with confidence either. This guy can't even get a stacked team going, what's he going to do here. I have talked with some Avs fans and they complain he has no system, can't get his players going, sounds like I heard this somewhere Funny thing is, Therrien worked under Hartley, and they are very good friends. I don't maybe its just me, but I wouldn't make a change, just to say I made a change. If you fire the coach, you better have a much better replacement, and I don't see one. Hopefully Savard does, cause I don't.

Or you make a change for a very different guy rather than a similar-level, similar-style coach. Doesn't have to be much "better", since that just leads to picking up overpaid retreads....

Basically, there is a price to pay if you change coaches so the next one MUST be an upgrade otherwise it's not worth the effort.

Bob Hartley's resume': Hawksbury Hawks - 2 Central Ontario Juniour A championships in 4 seasons Laval Titans - 1 QMJHL Championship in 4 years Cornwall/Hershey - Calder Cup Championship Colorado, since 98/99 - 1 Stanley Cup I'd be surprised if Lacroix lets him go. Hartley's biggest coaching problem right now is that Roy is playing like Andre Racicot. Where would we be if Hackett wasn't here and we had to play Theo in every game this year? Probably close to, if not in, last place.

Hartley's biggest problem is horrible PP and PK, plenty of small forwards and no scoring before their last game

We've lacked a good quality coach since burns. Maybe the word is out around the league not to coach in montreal cause the pressure is way too intense. Burns, Lemaire, and who knows who else have stated they would never come back here.
Is it possible to "develop" a coach?
We sure didn't do a good job with MT.

I don't know about Hartley as the only time he wins is when Patrick stands on his head. He has had some pretty impressive teams going into the playoffs with their rent a player philosophy ( O' to have some coin) and has only one once and that was when he was taken to 7 by NJ. Do you remember the year they picked up Fleury. That was a loaded team like I've never seen but they didn't make it to the finals. I take a pass on hartley.

hate to answer my own post, but i did like AV. but he's not a "name" coach. Me too and to be honest i wouldn't complain a bit if he came back. If i remember correctly it was not AS who fired AV in the first place so who knows but it is extremely improbable.

Too bad reggie didn't get the boot first. With the support AS has given MThead I am pretty sure MT would have been here eventually

With the support AS has given MThead I am pretty sure MT would have been here eventually I'm not so sure considering If AV stayed around he surely would have gotten alot more Production out of the roster provided. It's all speculation anyhow. I can always dream. ;D
