Well the right guys are sitting, so i don't have any real problems with those lines.
In particular, i like giving Kilger a shot on the first line. His size and speed should be a welcome addition to our 1st line.
Still not at all sold on the 2nd line though.

I agree with what you said.
I want to see what Kilger can do with Koivu and Zed. That could be a good young line. Give them a 10 game trial. If it doesn't work, call up Hossa and give him a 10 game trial up there, then give Bulis one,etc ;D
But the 2nd line...ick. I guess any 2nd line with Gilmour and Perreault on it(unless the RW is named Guerin or Iginla or Selanne) will be pretty mediocre.

The only thing that bugs me about it is how it's just one in a series of spasms, like contractions that are more or less predictable. I mean, Kilger sits for 5 straight games, then goes straight to the top line? On it's own, it makes sense, but it also makes his being scratched for the last five games even more bizarre. And what if it doesn't work after a game or two? Back to the pressbox?
And why did it take a predictable thrashing by Dallas to get the coaching staff to move some size up to the top two lines? I mean, don't they read our posts?

BTW, I still think this is the better lineup:
Bulis/Koivu/Zednick
Kilger/Perreault/Czerk
Lindsay/Juneau/Dackell
Petrov/Gilmour/Mckay
But Dougie's not going to agree to that....

Gilmour Perreault Mckay wow send out my grandparents parents and see if those three guys can keep up or get beaten coldly by the blinding speed of the old folks. That's just horribly ugly and we are playing the AV's who have the luxury of last change (not that MT would do the right thing at home anyhow : that line will go minus 4 I bet. Lindsey Ribiero Petrov Ribiero will definately be in Dire straights after this game he gets paired with lindsey's stone hands and Petrov's skate skate skate hey stop knocking me off the puck routine. the poor guy has alot of vision and is a playmaker would it not make sense to use him with speedy winger's with a bit of hands at least. Thanks for working so hard in pre season Mike Have fun in Hamilton you'll be there after this game Saku Zed Kilger Well at least saku and Zed have a guy with some work ethic even if his hands arent the best he'll do alot more work in the corners and creat more freedom and space for saku's creativity this line is great (i wish it we're bulis though ;D) I also hope Chad has a great game i mean a really great game because if he doesn't i'm sure something stupid will happen and he'll get benched again. Bulis Juneau Dackell AT least MT can figure out the no brainer's which is impressive considering his MThead. Another trouncing awaits GO AVS FIRE MT AND RG !!!!

i'm impressed that kilger is getting a chance with saks and zed again, but ribeiro just doesn't work with lindsay and petrov... get gilmour and mckay on the 4th, and add chow to the second and u might just have something. as for who to play left wing on the 2nd line... i'm not too sure, ribeiro or petrov would be much better on the 2nd then the 4th, they're not 4th line players.

Kilger is not a first liner. Though it might work for a game or 2, it just doesn't make sense. The guy can be a decent checker when he sets his mind to it and works hard but he doesn't have the hands or the shot or the playmaking skills to hang on a main offensive line. Bulis is a much, much better idea there.
I like the second line. Perreault has the hands, Gilmour the playmaking and McKay can crash and bang and he doesn't have bad hands. Not much speed but a good mix nevertheless.
The 4th line is plain awfull.

i guess the 2nd might work, some vets... but they're pretty slow. the 4th is just a filler line and it is just awful. ribeiro gets stuck in there because they're "giving him another chance" another chance my a$$, savard obviously doesn't like him, and it seems he'll never succeed given these circumstances. petrov's played well lately, and his reward is not being benched because of this new 2nd line... too many 2nd or 3rd line type players, and only 1 line to put them on.

But Bulis isn't that gifted on offence either, so I dont' see him as a 1st liner either, but still better then Kilger. I do like McKay and Gilmor together, as they seem to have chemistry together. But come on Therrien, when are you going to see that the 2nd line is having a nightmare of a time in their own end. I would rather see Kilger with Perreault, then Koivu, as Perreault needs major help in his own end, but Gilmor could most likely cry, and we don't want that. And the 4th is bad, but I like Petrov down there. Lindsay, I thought had a bad game when he played, so I would sit him. Petrov Ribs Chow/Audette would be an interesting line, but only when the pucks in the other end of the ice.

Or at least starting to implement them. As I, so brilliantly wrote 3 or 4 weeks ago, "put Kilger on the top line and give him a simple mandate. Go to the front of the net when Zed and Koivu are cycling the puck. Go to the corner and get the puck if you are in first. How hard can that be?" I just wish that Therrien would listen to my drivel and stop dribbling on his shoes.

Not much speed but a good mix nevertheless. The 4th line is plain awfull. Kilger is not a first liner, but in light of what's been going on recently, I think he'll be an improvement and very possibly for more than two games. The way I see it, Audette single-handedly converted the first line into a real defensive liability. He gets caught deep and can't get back, and he'll continue to get caught deep because he only understands goals as a way of staying in the lineup. Kilger will be more effective on the boards, will give the D more to think about, will help Zed do the cycle thing, and he will not be a defensive liablility. This is an improvement. It's unfortunate that there's only one place for Audette to play (first line RW) but that's a fact of life. He can't play on the second line because no matter who's on the left, the Perreault/Audette combo will be a defensive nightmare....The third and fourth line RW spots are also out, for obvious reasons. So there's nowhere for Donald to play. And I can't see that changing. In any case, Kilger makes sense on the first line as long as Zednick is on the right. If Zednick stays on the left I suppose Kilger could play the right side, but if Zed is on the right then you have the Bulis option on the left side, which is also interesting.

Do you guys remember how good Saku and Kilger were together in 2000-01? How good? www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid%5B%5D=1766025 points in 43 games as Hab in 2000-01 but alot of those points were with Koivu in a Jaunary/Feb stretch(when Savage was injured). 25 points in 43 games. Think of it. Almost a 0.6 PPG average. And he didn't play with Koivu all the time. I even remember a Gazette article ''Kilger an emerging star''. We thought we had found our power forward. Zholtok for Kilger. What a steal. Kilger was doing it all for us. He could play on the top line or center the checking line. He looked like an effective player. If that Kilger can come back for us, it will solve alot of problems.

I like the idea of giving Kilger a shot. The ice time is what he needs to show what he can do. I like Kilger and hope he does well. However, I feel that with the players we have now, the ultimate line-up would be the following: Chow - Koivu - Zednick Bulis - Perreault - Audette Kilger - Juneau - Dackall Lindsay - Gilmour - McKay Brisebois - Hainsey Rivet - Markov Quintal - Bouillon I would prefer to trade off Audette and bring up Hossa on the second line, but I don't think we will be able to get rid of him. Cheers, TheHabsfan

i'm diggin the kilger top line action, although i don't believe he will be a great scorer for us he can contribute to the top line in many other ways if given the chance. he's fast, and defensively sound. he can crash the front of the net, and bang well in the corners. just what we need on the top line. the next bertuzzi? bert didn't really break out of his shell until last year, maybe chad is next? i don't think he'll put up the offensive #'s, but i think if we're lucky he could be a very effective bertuzzi-like player for us.

I know many of you don't see Gilmour as being an offensive center but I say as long as we have him give him another shot like last year. Bulis definitely deserves a shot on the first line for now.Did we we really give three offensive lines a shot. Why not try Juneau and Dackell down on the fourth line?Bring up Ward and protect Perreault with Ward and McKay.It may not be perfect but you add even more size to the lineup. My question for the board, is how will Zednik handle moving back to RW? Is this a smart move, to switch one of our top scorers. I not saying anything, as I dont know the answer. I guess we will have to wait and see. It's just that Zednik has been known for being a streaky player, and I would hate to see him get cold. I would have liked to see Bulis with Zednik, as they have some chemistry together, and Saku can make any player better.

If Therrien weren't so manic, I would say these lines are a step in the right direction. Koivu and Zednik could use a guy like Kilger to rub people out and help create some space in the offensive zone.
Ideally I would have Gilmour retired and put Czerkawski on a line with Perreault and McKay, but that won't happen.
Thank God for the Juneau-Dackell-Anyone 3rd ine. It really gives us some stability.
4th line... who cares? We're not good enough to ice a 4th line for more than 8 minutes a game.

I for one do remember. It gave me hope in a lifeless season. The number's are actually even better then that. He had like 18-21 pts in 30 or so games before getting a concussion crashing the net(yes the habs used to do this once in a while back then) and then after he recovered he never really got back on track and only had a handfull of points to finish out the season.

Two years ago, Kilger was the 3rd member of a line with Saku Koivu and Oleg Petrov.. and for the few amount of games that these 3 played together, at the end of the year, they were pretty good. Maybe they were performing because they were already out of the playoffs and teams didn't bother to watch them as carefully.. but still, it was pretty positive.
With Koivu centering a line with Zednik ( a way better goal scorer than Petrov ), Kilger might find himself useful again trying to win battles along the corners, which Audette and Chow were obviously losing everytime, trying to crash the net.. and also, which is very important, give more space to our best duo..

Ratdog out and Kilger in...I'd call this a ray of sunshine.
What took MT so long and will Chad get more than a one or two game audition before sent to pressbox?
Well, it has been clear that Saku should be the smallest guy on his line and that the 3rd guy should be more committed to defense than the line's sniper, Zed. For me, speed is also a requisite for complementing Zed and Saku. As for Chad's stone hands, management should simply have realistic expectations about the offensive dimensions of his game -- insist on making traffic in front of net but do not expect his brutal first touch and mediocre puckhandling to change much. I think MT should give this at least 5 games and if there is too little productivity or chemistry then try Bulis since he's the only other guy that really fits the profile.

To paraphrase Comic Book Guy: "SLOWEST LINE EVER!!!" ;D Chow in for Lindsay, how long before he gets moved up to replace Kilger? One period? Two? Actually, for a 4th line, that Chow - Ribeiro - Petrov ain't so bad. Granted, its ridiculously small and soft, but its pretty hard for MT to throw out 4 lines and not have at least one of them as cushy as a downy pillow. Be interesting to see how much ice time they get...
