This is great ;D It only took them about a year and half to figure out what we did maybe we should run the media ;D Radio shows are starting to ask the question ''would you fire MT?'' to their hockey guys and columnists like Bert Raymond and Reggie Tremblay are starting to doubt MT. On the english side, they have been doing the same thing I tell you guys, the only way MT goes soon(like a week) is if the media is asking for the firing. There has to be media pressure on the HABS for them to do it sooner rather than later. If there is no media pressure, MT could stay on board for well...the rest of the year. This team is underachieving and better to stop the bleeding NOW than in 2 weeks when we could be 5-6 games under .500

Well I wont join in on the fire MT parade, but if it's going to happen, I want to hear just who would they get to replace him? I guess I fear the saying careful what you wish for it may come true. So if we get someone to replace MT, and he ends up being worse then MT, we are really up the creek so to speak. If MT stays or goes, I don't care, I just want to see the players do better then what I am seeing.
Of course maybe my wish could come true and Scotty comes outa retirement, and returns to his old team to lead us to glory, of course that would piss off the wings, but who cares?

This is great!! Hopefully the pressure stays on and they take the plunge. As far as replacements, is Robinson available. Nolan might be worth a look. The coach must speak french so that will narrow the field considerably, but i'm sure they can find someone who will make us a better team. I'm sure MT tried hard but let's face it he is over his head at the NHL level.

Robinson would be great for the defensmen, especially in a few years when Hainsey/Komisarek are up and other young prospects like Archer, Shasby etc... But I wonder if he would come back to Habland, if he's even available. As for Nolan, I guess you mean Ted Nolan. NOOOOOOOO, He's had 1 job in the pros, was fired and never got a snif again. Does this sound promising? No if you make the move, you have to do it right. I don't know who that would be, but I'm not the one calling for MT to be fired. I just don't think there's many good choices out there. But to me Ted Nolan isn't one of them.

I'd like to see AV back here. I don't want a big name coach, too much pressure on everyone. I want an X's and O's type guy who can get a solid system going. No rah, rah guys, we've got enough vets in the dressing room to do that stuff.

No rah, rah guys, we've got enough vets in the dressing room to do that stuff. Yep, I never had a problem with AV. You think MT has a tough time with his hi ho silver team make-up? AV managed to keep the team afloat with less depth and 500+ man games of injuries. Having said that, I know some of the guys here don't like AV at all, but I haven't heard specifics as to why. They may have valid points of which I am unaware. (Before HabsRus, it was really hard getting any good info on the Habs out West). Montreal, if we miss the playoffs with a fire hydrant as coach, it's no different than missing them with MT as coach. No downside. Let's end the MT era and move on.

FINALLY, the press wakes up! Took them long enough. I never understood why they gave Meat head so much slack! Anywho...I am so happy that something is starting to stir...It is long overdue!!! Now, on to some serious business....who do I think should come in and replace MT, AC and RG??? I believe this coaching staff would be awesome: Head Coach: Bob Gainey Assistant: Larry Robinson Assistant: Doug Jarvis Think about it. All have played for MTL, all have experience and Bob and Larry can speak french. For those of you old enough to remember Gainey when he played, you know that he was a no nonsense guy and that when he spoke, not often, but when he did, he carried a lot of weight and was really respected by everyone, including the press. Larry would also be a good candidate for head coach, but he has always had the reputation of being soft. Gainey is the man to lead the group and Larry, a great hockey mind himself, will look after our up and coming defensemen. I can garantee you one thing, you can be sure that our Brutal 3 wouldn't last long out there. Hainsey would be back ...Bouillon could be recalled if healthy (I heard he was hurt). Personnally, I think that our major flaw right now is having a solid defenseman. Ference or Kloucek would fit the bill. (I prefer Ference tho). This would at least get the bottom 2 guys (Traverse and Dykhuis) out of the lineup. Both Bob and Jarvis were very good defensive players. This would be a huge boost to our penalty killing. Larry had good numbers in LA with regards to his power play system. I think that this is a can't loose combination. All are proven guys in the NHL. Both Bob and Larry have won Stanley Cups as coaches. To me , it only makes sense. Now, if we can only convince them to join in!!! But that's another story! Cheers, TheHabsfan

Hey Habfan couldn't have drawn it out better myself!!! Bring back the old guard to right the ship once and for all! And I bet you any money that Bob Gainey and Larry Robinson would command the dressing room and every player on the roster would give their left nut to please the coach! Plus with the respect they have in the league it could sway some nice Free Agents our way!!!

There is a lot of much worst coach then MT out there and I don't think Savard has the testicular fortitude to hire someone that can legitimately challenge him (Gainey). We'd probably see Charron step in, a guy who never won anything at any level but made a career at hanging around losing teams...

I'm glad you posted this Marc I was going to ask those who read the french papers if they had finally had enough of MT's act. Doc I hope your wrong again about Charron but that would be a typical move by this organization. It's time someone around there has the guts to admit mistakes and correct them cause it's the right thing to do this team has suffered enough a decade could turn into 2 if they don't smarten up and we'll be just like the Leafs. i agree with montreal and doc. unless we have a qualified coach to hire, don't fire MT, because there's a good chance that if we hire another MT, we'll have to give the new guy at least a couple of years to prove how bad he is. isn't this how we ended up with MT in the first place? the list of replacements people name scare me...mostly because i believe guys like larry and gainey have no desire in being the head coach of the habs...

I read that Gainey , Robinson, AV, were all candidates for the SJ job. Whether that was the SJ wish list or these people were actually interested in the job is not clear. I would accept any of them. Gainey is unlikely as too much of a threat to AS as was stated earlier. Larry would be great because he has confidence and would not be afraid to do things. he would be given alot of slack to try things. Bottom line he is a winner. I always liked AV and thought he was a class act through some tough times.
Nolan will not be hired as he has been black balled because he went behind the gm's ( I believe it was Muckler) when he was in Buffalo and now no gm will touch him. He's been out of the game along time and like Ruff i'm not convinced he's a good coach but lived off Hasek. No to Nolan.
I'm available for the right price - a couple of Bell Centre dogs and a 7up before each game.

I would take AV back as coach in a heartbeat. I always liked that guy. He was fair. serious, hardworking, disciplined, dignified, smart and well-dressed. Had Houle not already fired him before getting the axe, I'm not sure that AS wouldn't have kept him. I think he might have.

heck, i'll do it for one bell centre dog! ;D... but really, i think robinson would be a good coach for us, but i don't even know if he'd want to. either way savard should can therrien asap, and even if he can't come up with a good replacement right away why not find an interim? he'll be better than MT that's for sure. or as a last resort he could pull a quinn and be a gm/coach until he finds the right replacement... not that he doesn't have enough problems as it is, but he sure does a good job of firing up the players with his little meetings.

I always thought that AV was let go unfairly. He never got a chance to coach a healthy NHL calibre squad. Even with an AHL lineup, he still coached this team to within two points of a playoff berth.
I would love it if he came back but I don't think that it would happen. How stupid would Boivin look if AS brought back the guy that he told Houle to fire? But it's time that the Hab's brass started to look on ways to improve the team, rather than trying to improve thier egos.

Well Guy's , one thing for sure, forget about Scotty, if he was to come back, it would be in Detroit and nowhere else. I like the Gainey, Robinson and Jarvis combinaison. One thing, would they want to come back ? i think Robinson is under contract with New Jersey as an assistant, they would not let him go to take a same kind of job that he already has. BTW, Gainey never won the cup as coach, he won it as GM in Dallas in 1999. No doubt, that this trio would gain respect from the dressing room, because the players would get slaughtered by the press and us fans, because nobody in that dressing room, even comes close to what those 3 have done for the habs in the past, besides maybe Brisebois who has one a cup in montreal. I agree if MT goes, no more rookie coaches. Ron Wilson, former washington capitals coach was hired in San jose, so Gainey is still available, he has been heard saying that he is looking for a new challenge, he will find one in montreal. Robinson and Gainey would do great here. Vigneault would do awesome, he did some pretty good things with a crappy team, imagine what he would do with this current team.
Have you ever noticed that teams do really well for about a month or two after a coach gets fired, maybe we should fire a coach every month....we could go undefeated for the season.

Although I totally agree with the Robinsons, Gaineys, AV etc, one guy who would probably be considered by Andre would be Rick Bowness. I think that Bowness did a fine job both in Boston and Ottawa but was a victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time because both of these clubs were struggling. He is a very classy guy, with experience, certainly not the worst choice out there.

Gainey can communicate with the media in french. He's a little better than Brina Savage, do you remember Savage doing french interviews, he tried. I don't know about Bowness though.
