BAD news. I know I read it here somewhere before, but it looks like Souray is out for a long time. My french isn't so good, but when I read that he will be absent long, very long, (if thats what it said) I knew it was bad. Also the article is about Savard's comments on Ribeiro, and he says Mike is a good player still, thats just come back from injury. And something about reporters asking the same question. www.cyberpresse.ca/reseau/sports/0212/spo_102120165100.html

in english i think it's like this:
As if things haven't went bad enough, the Canadiens learned some more bad news Thursday: defenseman Sheldon Souray, who was expected back within weeks will be out a lot longer. "That will be long, very long", warned the general manager André Savard Thursday. Will he miss the remainder by the season? "All that I can say to you, it is that it will be very long", he added while sighing. Savard counted on the return of Souray to bring a little robustness on the left side of the defense. The indefinite absence of Souray will force the GM of the Canadian to move. "One wants reinforcement but not at any price. We have good players whom we want to keep." If one reads between the lines, Savard is probably saying to us that Kyle McLaren will be difficult to acquire. Montreal had an eye on the colossus Brad Ference, of the Florida Panthers, at a certain moment, but this one is a droitier (?). Could the young Kloucek, of the Rangers prove to be a solution? One thing is sure, Savard wants absolutely to count on a seventh defender by the end of the season. "We will not remain at six. There was Ron Hainsey, who made the club after the training camp, but he had certain difficulties and we were constrained to return him to the minors so that he finds his confidence. He is playing better according to our reports/ratios and that could constitute a solution, but we have not make a decision about it yet. Precise details on Ribeiro In addition, André Savard made a point of moderating his remarks about his young attacker Mike Ribeiro. At the beginning of week, a fellow-member asked Savard to give a progress report on the limited use of Ribeiro. The GM answered: "He's been here for four years. Last year, I believed that he was there, but we had to return him to the minors." These declarations could be interpreted like a vote of not-confidence towards the young man, but Savard swears that it is not the case. "I was surprised by the reaction which my declarations caused. When I affirmed that he has taken four years that he lasted, I referred to the questions of the journalists about it. Last year, I really believed that he was there, but he moderated thereafter. There is no bond between my two assertions. I was well quoted, but my answer could be interpreted in two ways. "It is certain which he belongs in our plans. It is sure that it is wanted for him to succeed and would be spectacular. Meanwhile, it is necessary for him to improve. He is returning from a serious injury and it is not obvious. Under these circumstances, one sends a young person two weeks in the American League to find their form. In his case, he was there only three days. We have our share of blame to take. Perhaps we did not give him enough time. But he had given to us such a favourable impression in training camp that we decided to accelerate his return, believing that he could begin again where he left off and help us. I believe that Mike Ribeiro will arrive there one day, but that does not mean it will be tomorrow. There is not much place at the present time and it is necessary to be patient in his case. But I have confidence."

Interesting.
From this one could conclude, although it's not the only deduction possible certainly, that AS is determined for the long run to have a bruiser for the Left side and that Hainsey isn't it. So we're looking at Markov, Hainsey and a bruiser who should be Souray. But if AS does make a trade for some immediate help here, and if that guy were to prove to be good enough then Souaray would have a fight on his hands next season to stay with the team. But presumably we'd have somebody that was reasonably tradable if that were the case.
As far as Ribs goes I think AS really is getting impatient. I don't think that he believes Ribs has the goods to be anything special, let alone to be a regular day to day player (Ribs should remember to never let AS, see him in his T-shirt), so he's keen to find out one way or the other. If Ribs can play great, he's in the plans at least for the short term. (It could even be important for this season if Gilmour continues to underachieve over on LW) If not, no contract for next season. Time's a waistin'.

Excuse my french but
ExtraLOVE
Hainsey better get called up ASAP. He may make some mistakes in the early going but by the 10 game mark, if we give him quality ice time, he should start coming through for us. AS has to go for a big physical left d-man.
Markov Traverse Dykhuis
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Markov Hainsey Big left D
BETTER
as for the Ribs comments, AS basically said ''it has been 4 years you guys have been asking the same questions...when will he get his chance''

Hainsey already played all of last year in the AHL. Yes, the team is a mess right now and it's not the best atmosphere to bring young players into, but if the team would just be patient with Hainsey they would see dividends sooner reather than later

Hey Montreal, can you change the title to ''Souray out for a long time?'' I think more people would notice it and come here and vent how fragile Sheldon is
