The whole team of the 70's should have their jerseys retired. I wonder what we are waiting for?

I don't know what is so positive about a HOFamer not having his number retired 13 years after his retirement. In fact, this is one of those negative sticking points that I have with this organization.

Maybe so but that career with the organization can't do anything but bring back awesome memories that's for sure. He was one of our great ones and even though it's not done yet it needs to be honoured. So on Behalf of Habsrus i hereby retire his number and anyone else who wears it can be considered a traitor. ;D

i think gainey's #23 should be considered for retirement, but not before #19. i can not believe the habs have not retired robinson's #19 yet. i would love to hear any arguement against retiring big bird's number.

Maybe they could kill 2 birds with one stone. Invite Big Bird back for a jersey retirement celebration at one of the games and announce him as head coach... Think of what the fans would do if that was announced at game time.

PERFECT!!! seriously though, i don't think he'll ever coach in montreal. my nightmare would be to see him and gainey end up in toronto....AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Guy was a great player, but retiring his jersey? No way.... that's something reserved only for the ELITE players in your franchise's history... it's a nice gesture, but it only serves to devalue the honour of having your jersey retired. He's in the Hall, where he deserves to be, but that's it. Plus we're talking about the Canadiens here, if you retired Gainey's number you'd have to retire at least 50 other guys' number too, and then you'd have no more numbers left for your current team.

Well I had heard a while back that there was some bad blood between us and Robinson. It was back when we opened the Molson Center, and he wouldn't attend the services. I have no ideal why his number isn't retired, but I have heard before that it wont be cause of something from the past. Doesn't mean its true though, who knows. I'd retire the number, thats for sure. Man would he be a great coach for our defence.

Man would he be a great coach for our defence. ya, he'd be the man, IMO. yu know he'll be a head coach somewhere in the NHL before long, i'm pretty sure the habs will miss the boat on this on.

Larry's got my vote. Bob deserves it, but you're right, not before Big Bird Robinson. Cheers.

There was something about Savard owing quite a chunk of change to Robinson and Larry never got it. I'm not trying to start another controversy but that's what I was told a few years back. There might be something else but I haven't the foggiest, buds. Cheers.

I think Gainey is deserving to tell you the truth. The Russians referred to him as the best all-around player in the world at the time. And how many was it, four Selkey Trophies in a row? 78/79/80/81. One of the finest captains ever to play the game. A genuine person both on and off the ice. He's got my vote. Colour me biased I guess. Cheers.

I miss the 70's I was an untouchable for years no one could slag me cause they knew the Habs were going to win.Tough times I tell ya it's killing me. Anyways I'd retire both but Larry before Bob that's for sure. Retire Larry's sweater and walk him right behind the bench and hand MT a broom. HFTO
