Apparently a Rangers scout was at the game today. They have been scouting us alot recently. Blackburn is a 19 year old kid who will not be able to handle the load of getting that team into the playoffs. Theodore is starting to play better so Hackett can be dealt for the right package.
No sources, just a hunch...we will see a Habs/Rangers deal within a week. It could look something like: Hackett+Chow+something else(Petrov?) for Dvorak and/or someone else. Just names I am tossing around
I think AS is going to have to to move soon enough. This team needs help. This team needs to clean up the dead wood and get younger/bigger/stronger

don't get your hopes up Marc i'm not sold AS realizes what's going on nor am i sold on the idea he's willing to trade Hacket to the Rags. That could come back to bite our Behinds big time.

Well, I don't think trading Hack to the Rags will improve them THAT much
Blackburn(last night aside) has been playing great for them since being given the number 1 job. He has been playing at a level similar to Hackett. Their problem is their defence and their big eggo's. BUT Blackburn will run out of gas eventually and that's why they will need a veteran to help him if Richter is indeed out for a long time.

Just a thought, but Theodore is struggling with his confidence this season, so we keep Hackett around just in case right? How is that showing confidence in Theodore? Wouldn't the best solution be to trade Hackett and show Theodore that we do have confidence in him? I for one still have confidence in Theodore, and I like Hackett he has handled himself very well. Last year Theodore didn't start to really show he was a number one goalie until, we had to rely on him entirely when Hackett got hurt. This team absolutely needs some kind of shakeup, because we looked awful once again today. Theodore kept us in the game. Just moving Hackett won't get it done! We need some youthful enthusiasm. And what is Therrien thinking playing Traverse as our #1 dman!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed on all fronts.
Plus Hackett is a UFA after this year and we will get NOTHING in return if we don't trade him. And then you have the Garon case who will also be a UFA if he doesn't get 12 NHL games in. Imagine seeing our great goalie depth depleted by 2/3's and get nothing in return for them.
Hackett had been a GODSEND this year but eventually we will have to make a decision on this goalie situation.

I have been waiting for some life from the GM for 4 weeks now, but nothing ... Although I doubt DUMB-AS will do anything, I also happen to believe that sending Hackett out of town is best not only for Theodore, but also for the club (and this is coming from someone who is a BIG Jeff Hackett fan). His presence is hindering Jose's performance and since he is the reigning league MVP, MTHead feels obligated to play him, so ... I don't think we will get anything much for him from any team given the goalie state of the league. Freddy Brathwaite is available in STLou with Johnson coming back. Irbe wants out of Car. If we hope to land someone like Dvorak, better cough up something youth. I personally don't like Ribeiro, but I do see his playmaking ability as an asset. The Rags are looking for a LW to play with Lindros and Bure. Ribs did pretty good when playing LW last season, so there may be something there. Just a thought...

Dvorak has had problems with his knees and ever since, he hasn't been the same. His upside is huge, but that's too big a gamble too take IMO.

He has been around for so long, but let's not forget he is only 25. A Zednik-Koivu-Dvo line would be awesome

i donno if i'm sold on dvorak... and i'm still pretty big on chow, i think he just needs ice time and to be on a set line. but no one wants audette, and petrov isn't worth as much. heard the rags were scopin' out kilgy, chow and hack... all of which i would say are expendable, but other than hackett, i wouldnt want to move either of them. too bad teams aren't dying to pick up small over paid wingers like audette, and slow over paid veteran fourth liners like mckay... i can't see why anyone wouldn't want them, i mean our great andre savard did!

Speed kills! ;D His knees are a concern but he has skills, his 31 goal season speaks volume of his skill set... he'd cost us quite a bit though, considering that he's also sound defensively and a good PKer.

A trade with the Rags involving the likes of Hackett, Chow, Kilger, Ribs, Dvorak, Kloucek, etc ... is the type of high risk move I want Savard to make. Needless to say, the proximity of the Rangers, as well as the players involved will make that type of transaction high risk. But remember that with high-risk comes high reward. The same could have been said for the Linden/Zed deal. And right now, that trade is by far Andre Savard's best trade.
As far as Samuelsson goes instead of D-Vo, why would you want to target another third liner , when you can lay your hands on a high end talent like Dvorak ? I am not saying Samuelsson would be unwelcome, but we are already full on the right side, and the only way you want to further fill up those ranks is by acquiring someone who is MUCH MORE superior to what you already have there.

But remember that with high-risk comes high reward. Or big losses, then you'd crucify him because he didn't get the best of the deal. Imagine that Dvorak injures his knees once again and loses what makes him special, his skating, then we'd be screwed.

I'm not in total agreement that a big shake up is needed. I agree the RW glut needs to be addressed but I don't think anything is going to help untill MT and Greener are put to pasture.

That's why you have scouts and medicals to make sure that whatever problems a player has are not lingering problems.
One thing though, kudos to the Habs MEdical staff when it comes to injuries since the current administration took over. Man games lost to injury have been seriously cut down. I am sure they can figure out if D-Vo is over his knee problems before he is acquired.

Well a deal or move will be made at some point over the next few weeks, as Souray will be back, so a roster spot has to be opened for him. If a deal with the rangers was going to happen, I would try and send them Audette, but would be happy to send them Chow (heard they were interested in him) cause one of these has to go if not both (that would be great). Maybe Chow, Kilger for Kloucek and a 3rd. Or add Hackett and try and get Tutyin (sp?) from the RSL and a pick. It's got to be a 2-1 deal though, so Souray has a spot.
I would love to see Dykhuis moved though. Audette, Chow, Dykhuis, thats who I would like to see moved. thats 7.1M off the books.

Harder for me to comment on the trade from your side of things, but from our side I don't think a trade like those proposed happens. For one, Sather needs to know Richter's status... he can't make a trade if Richter can be starting for you in a week or two, or even a month or two. As of today his status is still in the air, although it has been 3 days now that he hasn't had any headaches so things are looking up for him. His health would immediately squash any Hackett deal, and other backups could be had for cheaper (St. Louis and Carolina come to mind). Czercawski would do nothing for us, overpaid and no place on our team, Ribeiro Slats would take, but not to be the LW for Eric and Pavel, no way. Kilger Sather would also be into... he might get a shot in the coveted LW spot currently held by sniper-extraordinaire Rem Murray, but Sather isn't going to overpay for the guy. He's been on what, 6 teams now?
As for who we are likely to move... Dvorak is a definite possibility. He's got a low contract, only 1.3 or so mil, he's got the world class speed, but his hands are horrible and isn't physical enough. Sammuelsson I can't see Sather dealing unless he gets a real nice player back... this guy has stepped it up big time this year, every game the guy is doing something, getting involved.... he's got a ton more confidence this year, taking alot more shots, and is great on the PK. He's also really cheap, less than 1 mil, and young, 25 or so. Not a pansie either. Kloucek.... another guy who it'll take a nice offer to get the Rangers to part with. He's been kept out of big-time deals before (Lindros, Jagr) and even with the injury he suffered a year and a bit ago Sather can't risk giving up on the package this guy could become. He could be our next Beukeboom, which would be huge (no pun intended). The Rangers don't want to see this guy be another Mattias Norstrom for some other team... his package of hitting and size is incredible. One guy I'd be surprised to not see moved if the Rangers pull the trigger in a deal, even if only a throw-in, is Sandy McCarthy. Guy is not getting done in any way, shape or form and makes too much to play 5 minutes a night. You hate to have your "enforcer" (I use the term lightly since he hasn't enforced sh-t since he came here) think he's the second coming of Pat Lafontaine.
And, as strange as it sound, the Rangers in fact DO have a budget to work with, and given their current constitution cannot add any substantial new salaries. Yes, it's true. This has kept them from going after other players unless teams are willing to take on some Ranger salary. Don't expect any dumping of guys like Czercawski (Chow?) or Hackett unless you take back guys like Nedved or Lefebvre.

Getting Dvorak does not seem to be much of an upgrade, the only real difference between him and Petrov is that Dvorak plays LW and he's younger. So we would get a natural LW, but we still have the same problem NO SIZE! I would rather see them get a prospect or a pick from the Rangers. Petrov and Hackett for a young prospect or picks. We'd call up Garon and we could give someone like Hossa or Ward a chance. We also dump Hackett's big salary. I'm still not sold on the idea of trading Czerkawski. Give him a chance with an offensive line. When I say give him a chance I mean longer than one game!!! I know pre-season is not the same as regular season, but he finished first in scoring in the NHL in pre-season, it has some merit. Another thing, why did we abandon our "offensive" system of play after losing 2 games. I know we lost by a lot, but are we any better now! Playing with our checking line. Our team is or should be an offensive team. Obviously the excellent PK we were supposed to have with Dackell and Juneau is not working we're 30th in the league. I'm not sure what our record is at home, where we get the last line change and Therrien can actually send out our checking line against the other teams top line, but it's not like we're dominating at home. Dackell is proving to be somewhat useless, I'd move him before Czerkawski.

Dvorak is a natural RW that shoots right, he's also much bigger than Petrov, he's 6'2 200lbs.

Post by Chopper on Nov 29, 2002 22:31:59 GMT -5
Czerkawski is 6'0" 200lbs but I still wouldn't consider him big. It all depends on if you use you're size, and Dvorak isn't overly physical. Thus making him just as valuable to us as Petrov. He's not a grinding type that will go to the corners and dig out the puck, stand in front of the net and take some punishment. His biggest asset is his speed. Just like Petrov. If were just looking at size how about Dykhuis at 6'3" 214 or Traverse at 6'4" 207. It's not just how big you're built but what you do with what you got. I would be happy with a guy who is 5'11" 210, Brendan Morrow, not overly big but uses his body well.

Guys, I saw this at habfans for what it's worth:
Subject: Newsflash on 680News (a Toronto radio station)... Name: Vulcan Views: 33 That the Rangers are interested in goalie Jeff Hackett and Andre Savard has asked for either Ludmark or some other young guy but I forgot that guys name. They mentioned something about Sather too. I think worst comes to worst, we get a second rounder from the Rangers.
and the reply:
Subject: Re: Newsflash on 680News (a Toronto radio station)... Name: STOKA Views: 16 It said that Sather is "lukewarm" to this proposal. I'm familiar with Lundmark. He's a finesse player. Very creative. Although, he's similar to Ribeiro in stature. Don't quote me on this. But, I think the other prospect mentioned was defenseman Fedor Tutin. The Rangers are very high on him too. Until a trade (involving Hackett) finally takes place. Rumors will be a dime-a-dozen.
Lundmark AND/or Tjutin? if AS can get one of them he will have done well IMO
