Here we are 22 games in, tredding water 2 games above .500. What's been established so far? Well we have 2/3's of a first line set, 2/3's of a second line set, a 3rd line set and a 4th line that can have a payroll of anywhere from 2 mill on one night to almost 6 mill the next, and 3 d-men playing well and 3 others just playing. We are getting some stellar goaltending...from our "backup". No room for any prospects. A pretty good powerplay. The worst penaltykill in the entire league. A coach that......well we have a coach I think. So what now you ask? Now we probably have one of the hardest 3 week stretches of the season: @bos PHL @dal @col @phx @bos TB BOS @ott SJ @nyr
If most or at least some of these area's don't get solidified this could get ugly in a real hurry but what the hell let's see what this team is really made of. Better now than later right? ;D

If we come out of that at .500 we should all be happy.

Oh Lord, I see many a sleepless nights in my future. Is it inconceivable that we may get only 10 points points out of the Scary SIxteen? How scary are they? We may be thrashing out who is the best first rounder, that's how scary. Indeed, by the time we reach the end of the year we can also be at the end of the season.
To stay on track for the playoffs we need 18 points.

By the time we get here, all could be lost. And if therrien still has a job, we will need to start riots.
To be alive we need to be at 42 ponts.
If we have anything less then 36 then one foot is in the grave.
There are 44 games left after this point and we need 46 points out of these for a total of 88 points.

I expect changes to be made if we get bombed on Friday and Saturday. Cause AS knows that if we end up on the bottom half of the 8 in the playoffs we are bound to play Philly or Boston and last year will not happen again.
(I'm kinda hoping that we get shelled 6-1 and 5-2, it might give AS a head shake!)

We have 7 blowout losses already this year even if we lose 2 more of them against 2 top teams AS, mr patience, won't do anything IMO aside from maybe releasing Lindsay and callin up Bouillon kind of move

Boston is running away with the division and we will probably end up behind Ottawa and maybe Toronto. We should consider ourselves lucky if we get to play PHI or BOS in the 1st round... and get smoked in the process.

I know we will pull it out at the end...and thats the underlying theme to a lot of posts here. Why are we STILL struggling after all these years?

Bad drafting and not being able to develop young players, that's why.

Rest of the year is a real b-tch of a schedule, but Jan and Feb could make all the difference in the world. You do well there and you could be riding one of the best 2nd half records into the playoffs. Can't be throwing away points against teams like Calgary and Florida though, those can be killer come April, particularly April 5th. Looking forward to that one, could have huge reprecussions for both teams!

I said it in the den the next twenty is gonna make or break us. Very tuff opposition for starter's and 13 games on the road by the time the new year rolls around it'll be too late for changes to the lineup something needs to be done now about the constant line shuffling and lack of team unity. WE need to move dead weight for hole filler's and we need to hurry IMO.

We may not have to worry about the last 44 games! It could be over unless they can change things in a hurry. The only ace in the hole is once again our goaltending. I fear the turnstile lineup is going to haunt us I'm hoping for a deal just so players stop looking over their shoulders to see who's next. As defense mechanism I tend to be more pessemistic but the next few weeks are down right scary. They have to play atleast .500 I don't think 88pts is enough. HFTO

I had not looked ahead, but this probably means a few sleepless nights, like HA forecasts. Staying on the road for spell can be positive: less distractions, relax on PP, bond with the guys, etc. But the Habs need more than hope for first star goalie performances considering what is coming.
First, Habs must continue to win over 50% of faceoffs (51.1% now, but Koivu and Gilmour are poor). Small, soft teams suffer more for lost faceoffs than big, fast teams. -- The other worrisome thing about tough road games is that Therrien cannot lean as much on his checking line.
Second, though Savard appears unable to shed a soft, second-tier "sniper" or two, the forwards have to compete harder in the defensive zone or they should get comfortable in the pressbox.
Third, Souray will not be available (true, no?), which means Dykhuis has to snap out of this hypnotic state (he clearly believes he is 16 yrs old and 160 lbs) and give Brisebois a competent partner because I shudder to believe Traverse is the answer over this stretch of games.
Last, points have to be delivered during these games and no more excuses about "I'm slow starter" or "I'm getting my legs under me like last year", etc ad nauseaum. Therrien has to be a professional and reward ice time based on performance.

Souray will be back sometime in January. And? It's going to take him another ten games or so to get into game mode and by that time, it may be time to get the golf clubs out.

Souray will be back sometime in January. I saw somewhere that Souray could be ready before Christmas. Thats 3 weeks or so away. Savard has to make a roster move once Souray is ready. I wonder who goes?
