Just saw it on RDS.
Mark my words...bad move...
Even if he beats those guys, it won't give him a big confidence boost because they are only the Thrashers. We expect to beat them.
But can you imagine if he loses the game? his confidence will take another beating.
Plus, the Thrashers have alot of offensive talent. Kovalchuk, Heatley, Savard, Stefan, McCheachern(sp?), Kozlov,etc...facing a struggling goalie may be exactly what those guys need to score a few.
On the other hand, this likely means Hackett gets the 2 starts during the weekend.

This just further exemplifies what a terrible, terrible mistake it was to start Theodore against Carolina. And I'm not just saying that in hindsight, I thought that from the moment I heard it was going to happen.
Therrien has now backed himself into a corner with regards to his goaltenders. Like you said, unless Theodore comes up with a 40 save performance against the Thrashers (and what will that say about the team in general, if they give up 40 shots against the Thrashers??) his confidence isn't in all likelihood going to improve all that much. Which means you have to play him in one of the weekend games (back to back), either against Philly or Boston. Gulp. In the meantime, your reliable goaltender (Hackett) will now go over a week between starts, his first start in 8 days coming against Boston, in Boston. Double gulp. Then, the next night a shaky Theodore goes against a dominating, physical Philly team, with the boo-birds sitting on the edge of their Molson Centre seats. Triple gulp.
Dumb, dumb, dumb.
There was no reason to start Theodore in Carolina. None. Nobody expected him to start, there was no media pressure to start him, he had done poorly against them in the past, he was hurt, and hadn't practiced in a week. Why, oh why, did he get the start?? Hackett should have played, then come back with Theodore on Tuesday, when he is rested and healthy, and his confidence doesn't get killed. Hackett on Friday, against Boston, Theodore on Saturday against Philly.
It just makes sense. Or it did to me, anyways. If they had of done it that way, Hackett would be sharp, as he would have played Saturday, Theodore would have been rested and healthy for a weak Atlanta team on Tuesday, Hackett rested and ready for Boston on Friday, Theodore rested and ready for Philly on Saturday. Am I the only one who saw this?? They say that coaches break down the season into 5 game chunks, planning five games at a time. Did nobody plan these five games??
Now, look at the mess we have. A injured and rusty Theodore gets shelled on Saturday, a confidence-lacking Theodore plays on Tuesday, but gets no confidence booster because its only Atlanta, a rusty Hackett goes Friday, 8 days since his last start, against a top team in a nasty building, and then Theodore goes Saturday, against another top team with hometown fans potentially ready to shower him with brick-laden Vachon cakes. Or, Therrien goes with Theodore or Hackett in both weekend games, hoping the back to back (with travel in between) game against arguably the top two teams in the Conference doesn't kill them.
Dumb, dumb, dumb. Very poorly thought out in my opinion.

I agree. He should have never went on Saturday. The Habs should have never told him ''it's up to you...your decision''.
If Theo wins against Atlanta, I'd start against the Bruins though. See if he can get that playoff magic back
but NO WAY should he start against the Flyers after what they did against him.

How many threads do we have to have about when the Habs lose, they lose bad. Gauranteed, Theo starts, it will be a blowout. Sorry to say folks, I have no confidence in the boy.

Just brilliant planning.
Need I remind everyone the "brilliant" tactical thinking this management is capable of?

One thing you guys haven't factored in.....MT's luck. This guy has 4 leaf clovers coming out of his ears...he has the proverbial horseshoes coming out of his donkey, it just seems that at the very moment when the world should fall on him, something unexpected happens and he looks like....well not a genius, more like a C student. Theo will have his best game of the season against Atlanta. How do I know? I stole HA's crystal ball.
PS. Czerkawski will score a short handed goal.

Probably. Just like last year when he put Dackell on the PP a couple of times and scored seconds later(after I screamed loud at the TV) and the same thing for Traverse ;D

Let MT be president of the United States and Dubya be Head Coach of the Canadiens. It raises the average IQ of The Canadiens brain trust and the US Congress.

Aww let the kid play.....as Sparky Anderson said about his bad pitchers in Detroit....you have to let them play, they won't let me shoot them.
BTW...Byron Defoe is getting the start for Atlanta

Are you guys really surprised? MT has made so many mistakes concerning the lineup it's beyond funny. MT is obviously thinking that he wants to boost Theo's confidence in anyway and still convey to him he is the number one goalie. Really I see nothing wrong with that thinking if he had started Hackett who has been hot against the Canes. Coming off the hip flexor Theo should have been given the additional time to rest and then start against Atlanta. If the Habs blow this one LOOK OUT! HFTO
