I respect Mr. Mario as much as the next guy but this guy is seriously starting to piss me off. The man lights up the score sheet night in and night out and that's great at his age. I have to wonder though, is it really all that skill he has? or is it the fact that every d*nm north american player REFUSES to hit this guy during the game. I was happy to see Rivet giving him a couple of cheap shots infront of the net. Just cause you're Mario Lemieux doesn't give you the right to go infront of the net and park there. I enjoy the new rules as much as the next guy but this guy is unbelievable. Every single time someone lays a finger on him he looks over at the ref looking for a penalty. Hey Mario, last I checked Hockey was a contact sport pal. Showing a man respect is nice and dandy. Mario deserves all the respect in the world, he's a hell of a player. But when the puck drops he's just another player on ice. Infact he's a very dangerous player on the ice and not hitting him outta respect is really stupid cause he'll light you up. North american players need to stop looking at the guy as their boyhood idol with little kids eyes and start giving him the business in the corner or even lay an open ice hit on him every once in a while. The only reason the Pens are where they are is cause guys on other teams let this man do whatever the hell he wants on the ice. If you start getting coverage on him you'll see the Pens not only missing the playoffs but not even cracking 10th place in the east.

I agree.
About someone gave him a few pushes. Nice job Rivet.

Maybe someone can help me out here, I think I missed something on Sportscentre this morning. Dutchie mentioned something while Rivet was shoving with Mario...
I think some time ago a player was pushing around Lemieux, and Lemieux asked the guy how many points he had. Apparently the guy said "Same as you, less than Wayne."
I would love to know who said that, that has to be one of the best lines ever.
I like Mario as much as the next guy, but he does get a little too b*tchy from time to time. He basically would like hitting banned from the league, which just won't happen, and I don't think anyone else would want that either.

Well Mario, this is nhl and bodychecks are still permitted and is part of the game. all teams like yours have one objectif, win games and if that means giving the owner of the pittsburgh penguins a few bodychecks here and there and clear his butt from in front the net so be it, and mario if you can't take it , go back to retirement and play once or twice a year with the old timers they don't permit bodychecking. It's ok for your defencemen to cheap shot audette, koivu and zednik and and nobody can touch mario, yeah right, dream on. You are great player, no doubt, but shut up play the game or retire. [/color]

My theory is Mario saw Wayne get away with it so now he is trying to be Wayne #2 by not getting hit and complains about it. If he can't take it then he shouldn't be playing in the NHL. When I want to watch figure skating I do so. When I watch hockey, I want hockey WITH body contact not hockey that looks like figure skating.

Wayne had Dave Semenko with no instigator rule. Mario is probably the most skilled player I have ever seen and has made a miraculous comeback from cancer and now is proving he's still Super Mario at this age it's awesome. I do agree however that the guy just should shut up and play for god sakes he is 6 foot 4 and wieghs 220 what the hell is his friggin problem with fighting through a check once in a while he acts like he's a friggin lightwieght out there if he would start using that size a little he'd be twice the player he already is. CRY BABY

It was Mario going how much money you make, and then guy said same as you less then Wayne.

CRY BABY My sentiments exactly. At his size, with his skill, he is coming off like a cry baby. Maybe he should just quit and go back to being just an owner if that's how he feels.

Does Mario think it's Sunday pond hockey? The first thing I would do is stick Lindsay on him and tell his me is getting a 24 ouncer on me if he smacks Mario around. Period. Who gives a royal what his name is, if he is on the ice he gets hit. Bravo for Rivet and the roughing he gave him last night. Why did it take the moron so long to tell the guys to hit? Why wasn't Lindsay on to do some hitting? Everyone and his dog knows that Mario backs WAY OFF from the rough stuff. NO ONE touched him itn the first game in Octomber. No one. And we landed up losing a point because he roamed the ice at will. I did not see the Monday game but last night was more of what is should be.
Mario, buddy, it's a man's game and if you can't take it, see ya.

I'd like to see what records he would have broke had he not been injured or sick. He was on a pace to break several of Gretzky's records if he had stayed healthy.
Actually, Rivet wasn't doing anything special. To be honest I've only seen a few games this year, Saturdays and the odd weeknight games, but Rivet has been dishing it out all year. I'm a tad concerned because his injury hasn't completely healed, but it's nice to see at least one of our defensemen doing that for a change.
I thought Mario's reaction wasn't anything overly siginificant really. He was pissed at the fact he was being roughed up in front of the net. Lots of players take exception to that, however, lots take it on the chin.
If he was honestly mad, well, he'll have to deal with it. Basically, a talent like him has, and will continue, to draw that type of attention; always have, always will.
Now, don't get me wrong guys, I think the game is the overall winner when a talent like Mario comes back into it. However, if he wants to quit again, well, let 'em go again, I reckon. I'd hate to see it.
Cheers.
