Unbelievable. This idiot keeps finding new lows. Down by 1, 1:20 left, who should I throw on the ice. Oh ya Traverse. He's an excellent skater, good at puck possession, his passing is beyond reproach. I'll save Markov for overtime. Anyone really surprised we never got possession in Ottawa's end for the final 1:20. Is there a worse defensive pairing in all of professional hockey (that includes the A) than this season's version of Q and Travesty. It's a lock sure guarantee that at least once on every shift they're on the ice, the opposing team will cycle the puck in our end and create havoc. It's also a guarantee that at least 5 times a game, you can see Q down on all 4's near the crease praying the puck doesn't go in the net (Usually once a game the opposing team will score with him in that position.) Oh I could go on and on but why hurt myself with all the bad memories. Oh yeah, a quick look at the team's icetime tonight will see that our Norris trophy nominee Q led the whole team in icetime. That has to be a recipe for success. As for the Habs being tired. Normally I wouldn't give a team any slack but this is our 5th game in 7 nights which is the only time this season the Habs have to deal with that. Now that said, does it take a rocket scientist to figure that we have 3 extra bodies in the press box that could have played tonight and been well rested. Nah, why use the extra bodies to our advantage?

They are among the worst d-man pairings in hockey for sure
In a few years we'll laugh when we think Hainsey was being replaced by Patrick Traverse...LOL

Another log on my Fire Therrien fire no scratch that make it a 5 alarm blaze. Markov is a top five scorer and number one on the blueline this is getting insane with Travesty the Green Clone FIRE MT AND RG

Hi guys,
My overall impressions of the game are mixed. It is obvious that back to back games are never easy. Most boys looked tired tonight, but a few looked stupid.
Where to start....Traverse...gotta start with him. One word: Brutal!!! You would be hard pressed to find another defenseman in the NHL that has his level of incompetence. Bad passes, bad coverage and above all, bad judgement. In every game, he coughs up the puck, passes to the wrong coloured jersey, is running around or is falling to the ice (on his own!!!). Speaking of falling to the ice, did you notice the attempt to cut off Hossa? Wow, way to put some effort into it!! AS hasn't made too many mistakes, but this one is glaring.
Dykhuis....The new rules are killing him. His game was clutch and grab...now that he cannot do this anymore, he looks lost and nervous. With Hainsey coming up, I would look at dealing him. I would rather see Hainsey make some of those mistakes and learn from them rather than have this guy get worse every game.
Quintal...slow...slow...slow. He can't keep up. Enough said!
Now, on to the good ....
Markov. This guy has developed into a complete player. He shows confidence and patience which is typical of seasoned veterans. Look for him to become the Habs #1 d-man really soon. Very impressive!
Speaking of defensemen, 4thperiod.com reports again tonight that the Habs are VERY interested in Ference. With the blueline being the Habs major (and I mean MAJOR) weakness, they need a good boost of muscle. Ference was a 10th overall pick (by Vancouver, I believe), is tough and young. I say go for it. He would be a big upgrade from our BRUTAL 3.
cheers. TheHabsfan

I didn't see tonight's game, but I can certainly appreciate the Quintal/Traverse comments. MT seems to like them big time. And that says it all about him. I think I'd roll the dice on Brad Ference. The first year after he was drafted, he didn't improve all that much for the Canucks organization and then he was included in the Pavel Bure deal, so I don't think his being traded was a slight against him. He played all of last year with the Panthers and his plus/minus wasn't outrageously bad (from memory -13 I think). Ok for a team like Florida. He also picked up his share of penalty minutes, so this guys strength is clearing the crease, and not on puck movement. For that reason he shouldn't cost as much as a tier 1 prospect, but he's ideal for us. The respect for our smurfs will jump with him around. He's a right handed defenseman. So if you can picture replacing the dingbat duo of Q and PT with Ference and Hainsey, and then replacing Dykhuis with Souray and suddenly you have the makings of a pretty solid defense with some good balanced skills. Hainsey can move the puck (assuming MT and Green are fired or have received brain transplants) and Ference can boot people out from in front. Souray can do the same for Breezer and there's nothing wrong with Markov and Rivet (especially if Rivet can get healthy). As the season wears on it is becoming more evident that we only have 3 NHL caliber defensemen on the team right now. Those other 3 can cause us some serious problems and have to be otomized. Beam them up Scotty.

i guess someone on the habs postgame show on the radio called in and said habs were going to deal hack and gilmour for mclaren and a 4th rounder. likely won't happen considering gilmours age, and hacketts contract being up in the summer, but what do u guys think about it? if jose can be consistant i think this would be a great deal, if the team can look past mclaren's actions last post season.

Thanks TheHabsfan (THB) for your game review. It's nice to see new posters jump right in and give their opinion. (BH and 17...what?....you expected a compliment?.....you don't compliment the fixtures....... )

(BH and 17...what?....you expected a compliment?.....you don't compliment the fixture....... ) Bob and I don't need compliments. We have such total confidence in our own abilties (some would say inflated egos) that any further compliments would only hurt our financial situation by causing us to go out and waste money on new toques. In fact we are so sure of ourselves that we are utterly flabbergasted when our point of view is not taken as gospel. Yes, it's hard to be humble when we're perfect in every way. Modest too. Well, at least you didn't refer to us as chattels.

Guys I might regret saying this but .... I like Traverse this year. I think he's playing solid defense, he's +3. He skates well, he looks bigger this year and he handles the physical stuff a lot better than last season. You can't honestly say that he is not putting in valuable minutes each game... last night he played 20 minutes. And we weren't blown out on the score sheet or on the shot clock. Now if you want to compare that to the others we have on D: Qball is -4 Dykhuis -2 Breezy -1 (Lot more ice time of course) Then you have the best pair: Rivet +4 Markov +6 I think if MT is confident with Traverse on the ice at the end of the game so be it. But in a couple of years when the Habs are on the PP or with the extra attacker and teams take a man just to cover Markov then take Traverse off and let Markov create advantages down low.

He hasn't been the worst d-man(Dykhuis and Q have been) but I don't want to see him on the ice in ANY key situations. Traverse is a very fragile player confidence wise and since he is so easy to knock off the puck it can really hurt us.
