Everyone is hoping that Demers takes over because he is better the nnothing and right now the Hab's have NOTHING. But, I don't want Demers. He is not elite enough and smart enough. I always consider him a run of the mill but competent coach. WHAT ABOUT GAINEY? GAiney and Robinson........get my heart pills. Demers is an elite coach with a proven NHL record. Given he's not a mastermind a la Lemaire and we can talk about Hitch forever but it's not like either are available anyway... Demers is an undisputed leader that knows the game inside out. It's simple, right now you have to look at your available options and frankly Demers is the best by a land mile... Gainey never won anything as an NHL coach and wouldn't be anything more then a experiment. But I'd gladly have him replace Savard ;D

You are new to this board and mentally I am too old and frail to keep repeating why the Hab's will never get anywhere with Therrien. If you look back at 1700 or so posts you will find 300-400 posts where I do nothing but diss Therrien. It all started when I saw him coaching, live and in person. When I saw him in person, I saw him CHEERING on one of the players to play better. Do you understand what that means? When one of his defenseman was beaten, when the defenseman sat down and looked over at the coach, Therrien shook his head. Do you understand what that means? I could go on and on but I am tired of it. VERY tired. Montreal, coaching is not about yelling, it is not about benching the players who are not producing, it is not about cheering. Coaching is about getting your players to play a certain way. The very definition of coaching is: Main Entry: 1coach Pronunciation: 'kOch Function: noun 2 [from the concept that the tutor conveys the student through his examinations] a : a private tutor b : one who instructs or trains a performer or a team of performers; specifically : one who instructs players in the fundamentals of a competitive sport and directs team strategy <football coach> A coach has to develop and train his players to play as a cohesive unit. Not a cheer leader, not a gatekeeper for the press box, not a juggler. The players have NO respect for Therrien and are not playing for him. Even when they want to play for each other as they did in the playoffs last year, Therrien through his incompetence as a COACH is denying them the opportunity by not training them to play as a cohesive unit. If that is not obvious to all then I don't know what to say. Well I've had a lot of coaches myself, as I have played hockey for over 15 years (not that it matters), and I never blamed my coach. I was the one on the ice, if I made a mistake, I was to blame. Several guys on these team are not doing what they should be doing out there. BLAME them, everytime Dykhuis screws up, or Quintal or Theodore, or Gilmor, or Petrov, or Perreault, blame them for not working hard, for making bad decisions.
