I keep thinking Turgeon is going to get traded soon(he's basically Dallas's 3rd line center) and I wonder if the Habs should go after this guy...after-all he brings: - elite skill to the table
- would give us a solid 1-2 punch down the middle with Koivu
- a solid PP player
- with more ice time he should be able to re-gain his past form
- doesn't make too much for a potential elite center(6-7 million$)
On the other hand, the negatives: - another soft player
- his salary if he doesn't regain his form
- his age
- of course he wanted out the last time..but now he wouldn't be the captain of the team and Tremblay is gone
do the positives outnumber the negatives? The Stars need to shave some $$ off their payroll. Hatcher is a UFA after this year and they have plenty of other expensive players. Could we get Turgeon for maybe Perreault+ a good prospect(say a Balej?). Stars get a player who is producing better than Turgeon is right now and a solid prospect. They shave around 3-4 million per year. Habs could be able to pay Turgeon with guys like Hackett and Gilmour likely off the payroll this summer and some guys like Audette maybe being dumped soon. What do you all think? is the risk worth taking?

Soft one way player, 33 years old, OLD, best year was ten "10" years ago. I think we have a few like that.

Pierre Turgeon? Be afraid, be very afraid. My opinion, its not worth getting him. He makes 6M a year, and he wanted out of here his last time around. I really hope he doesn't end up here. Although he could be a replacement for Perreault, but I am still pissed that Turgeon cried about being the 3rd line center behind Saku so he demanded to be traded. BOO!

Whp's gonna play fetch? Chewy? Dackell?
Who's gonna play tough? Big boy Petrov? Killer mouse Gilmour? No touch me Chewy?
Don't want a 6 million dolar skill player. Add him and his dollars and now we are a 50 million dollar team that has no very little grit and will get trounced in the playoffs unless a Theo/Hack stands on his head or for a returning Captain that gave them an emotional high.
Let Turgeon go to Toronto or better yet, Rangers.

Turgeon isn't 3rd line center in Dallas...he is playing on the 2nd line. Arnott has only played a few games. WHen Arnott was in the lineup he played on LW

It does not make sence right now, but if the Audette situation plays out and some pick up his salary well then maybe, but I doubt it. He can put the pick in the net , but not at the rate his salary indicates.

i think i remember hearing somewhere he has a no trade clause even if he has one, if he truly wants to re-establish himself as a very good player he needs to get out of there. And folks, how do we get softer by trading Perreault for Turgeon?

Well, as always, it depends on the price. If its one of our young studs, then I say no. But if we are swapping salaries and similar aged players, then yeah, I would be all for it.
Say what you will about Turgeon, but he is definetely an upgrade on Perrault, Gilmour, Audette, Czerkawski and so on. Any one of those guys - or indeed, all of them - I would trade for Turgeon. Sure, I would love to have a Thornton, or Sundin, or some other player with blood and guts on his sweater after every playoff game, but teams don't tend to get rid of those guys too easily.
If the trade improves the team and doesn't hurt us in the future, then why not? We have no real center prospects anywhere close to making the team (much less having an impact on it) so its not like he would be taking away ice time from somebody. As Marc says, he would be an upgrade on Perrault, and if the deal is worked so that minimal salary is taken on, it would be a pretty good idea, to me.
Koivu - Turgeon - Juneau - Kilger down the middle? Works for me.

I'd be all for it! With quality ice time the so called "tin man"can still put up points and certainly an upgartde as BC has said down the middle. If you could add Turgeon and another large body on the wing we would be beteroff IMO. HFTO

I certainly like this lineup!
Zed-Koivu-Chow Big Body(could be Hossa/Kilger or a pickup)-Turgeon-Audette(or Petrov)
We would have 2 legit scoring lines.
If Turgeon can't get Audette going, Audi should just retire...

Turgeon isn't 3rd line center in Dallas...he is playing on the 2nd line. Arnott has only played a few games. WHen Arnott was in the lineup he played on LW If the Habs are going to pursue someone from Dallas it should be Arnott. He has the size ( 6"4 - 220) down the middle we desparately need and is still relatively young at 28. He has the talent and a track record. He was in the league at 18 and has scored at a 27 goal pace over the course of his career. And he has centred the number one one on a Cup winning team. He makes abot 60% of Turgeon's salary( $3.65) Adding another talented player with a rep for soft play doesn't advance our cause in the Eastern Conference. The Habs need to be tougher to play against in order to compete against teams like Philly.

But Arnott is probably not available. Turgeon is.
