A little light went off in my head a few minutes ago or maybe it was just the gerbal drinking an extra cup of coffee this morning i'm not sure which one it is. I just thought it could be possible that coaching inferiority is creating a potentially scary long term and short term problem.
Firstly I thought pretty much the entire universe revolves around the coach. Much the same way someone in Middle management is the center of the universe in the working world. All middle manager's suffer from rubber floor syndrome because fesces flows downward but hits the bottom and bounces back up to the middle manager's.
We have no system this is blatently obvious. (HA i know the trough is our system and it's unique because no other team outside of tyke uses it) this creates several problem's both for the player's and the GM.
As player's nobody really know's what the role they have is. Are they goalscorer's, grinder's or playmaker's. Are they playing tonight, are they on the bench, are they on the first line or the third, are they a powerplay quarterback, a PK specialist, or a 7th defenseman. What do they do and how can they find any rythym if they never know what's gonna happen from one night to the next except it's most likely our goaltender will have bailed us out for the W otherwise we won't be collecting any points.
If your the GM what do you do the talent on your roster is inneffectively utilized so how does he assess what the needs of my team truly are. Do they need any of the aforementioned role player's or are they already in place and the coach just isn't utilizing the talent effectively enough to know. He needs to sign key free agent's but in what area's will they benefit us the most ?? He wants to develop our younger player's effectively but can't because his coach has no system for the younger guys to fit into. He wants to build a contendor out of nothing but is caught in a position where he does not know what to do next.
I'll tell ya what to do next FIRE Michel Therrien get a guy who will implement a system any system at all so that the player's have something to do out there besides letting Theodore and Hackett do all the work. And you as the GM will have something to work with when making trades and signing FA's how can AS do his job effectively if the coach isn't doing his. Andre Has provided an abundance of tools For Therrien to choose from to get some sort of functionality to this team and it simply isn't happening player movement is not an option. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link and it's time to find that ornery old lady from the tv to tell therrien in her smug little i wanna kick her in the privates voice "good bye"
