On the Fourth Period.com and from Mr. Pedneault last night
To Colorado: Brad Isbister
To NYI: Alex Tanguay
The Avs need a big guy to clog the crease and the Islanders needs a scoring winger for Yashin? Is there anyway we can beat this deal?

I'm not a big Tanguay fan...i think he's overrated and his good numbers from a few seasons ago was more a product of his linemates than anything else. Still a good young forward, but i just don't think he's the offensive force that some see his as...
That said, Marc is right...if we want Isbister its gonna cost us Zednik. So i say we look at either Wiemer or Scatchard instead. Those guys don't have Isbister's upside, but they are both fairly young, big, tough forwards that can play on 2nd or 3rd lines...they would also come much cheaper than Isbister.

The Avs can make a move like that because Tanguay is a secondary scorer, and Isbister would be as well.
Isbister would be expected to produce big here, just like Zednik, so the move is too lateral for us.
I have always been a big fan of both Scatchard and Wiemer. Both big, good defensively, and good in the room.
Having said that, either one of them will be a third liner at best here. In fact, if you play Scatchard at center, he's a 4th liner, plus you're stuck with Ribs on the bench.
If Scatchard could be had for Lindsay, Dackell, a mid-level prospect, a mid-round draft pick, or something along those lines (one of any of those, not all) I say go for it, otherwise no.

You're right MP. I wouldn't put too much stock in Garrioch. He has an axe to grind with Bonk and appears well on his way to becoming another Brooks or Strachan type of columnist. I'd take what he says with a big grain of salt. Cheers.

I've had it with 30 year old players whose best production was three years ago. We import them like Saddam imports plutonium.

I'd rather have tanguay over Isb. We need a big forward like Isb but for pure talent I'd go with tanguay. doesn't really matter as i don't think the Avs are going to do this deal. They already gave up Drury. I just don't see it.
I'd like Scatchard for his grit but he ain't got alot of offensive talent so in the end he will not be the impact player we need which the hope would be if we got Isb.
I'd keep working on Milbury as he is an idiot and we'll get a good deal. i still can't believe that the Islanders spent all this money to buy a team and then when they do fairly well they give Milbury a huge raise and extension. the guy is a moron and even with all the money spent he still only has a mediocre team at best. Is there anyone out there that wouldn't rather have Spezza than yashin. I've only seen the kid play a few games but i think he is the real deal. Yashin is an overpaid cancer.
AS keep working on Milbury and you'll bring home some fruit.
