Hello, it's been a year or so since I last posted, back before the McKeen days etc. I have, however, been reading as this is still the best place for thought out insight on our habs, in fact, I read no other board.
Thingme's;
Although I've never really liked Audette, and was astonished while the rest of the world seemed to welcome him after the trade, when he could have signed with us in the first place, I feel he is being badly mistreated by our brass. We, ahum, the brass, are essentially biting off their own foot, or is that feet? If a trade is the desire, how valuable is a guy who can't/doesn't even play for us. I could understand sitting him a game, with the idea that we need more from him etc. but this has gone too far. Audette is a sniper, albeit not in the likes of Lafleur and company but he possesses that style of play. I remember my hero, Lafleur, going missing for periods, and sometimes games, then BOOM a game winning goal, etc. etc. These type of players have to be allowed to "get in their groove" and like Audette or not, he shouldn't be riding the pine after 3 games, after missing half of last season with an injury. We could argue that he doesn't appear to be giving it his 110%, well, I say, it has to be accepted, the alternative is to call up guy's like Laundry, and watch them work hard and accomplish nothing.
Where the Heck is Kilger? If there's an impending trade then get on with it. I've read various posts, and here is a player with size, determination, speed that we all want to trade for, and where is he....in the box....I don't get this at all. He's a very decent penalty killer, has proven versatility, I really can't get a handle on this one....I want to scream!!!!!!!!!
If any of you do remember me, your probably wondering when I'm going to bash Theo....well, your wondering is over...
Jose Theodore, is a highly overrated goaltender. There, I feel better already, however, I'll add some meat to the pie.
Although there was brilliance last year, and even in my opinion, he was deservedly rewarded, this (last) was his first year of any kind of contribution regardless of the fact the press had been selling him (dirtily at times) for 2 years or so. IMO the only way for Theo to be successful is for him to play at his very best every game, his positioning and posture must be perfect for him to have any kind of consistent success, this is not happening so far this year, and he looks terrible, plus, he's not as protected by the media. Part of Theo's brilliance of last season, was Theo's own doing, what the heck, it got him a $5 mil dollar contract right, Theo likes to leave the puck lying around in the slot, this enables miraculous saves afterwards, and heck, that shot clock sure gets elevated along with that save percentage...We gave our defense all kinds of vulgarity last season, some of it deserved, but the truth of the matter, is that the unpredictability of where the rebounds would end up, and the fact that our D being a bit soft and unable to out-muscle these player for these rebounds, gave Theo an opportunity to shine. Not that Theo didn't make some fantastic saves, but many were because of his mishandling the first shot and the D having to runaround trying to recover. This year, that first shot is even in question , opposing players are no longer questioning where to put the puck, this was answered clearly in game 4 against Carolina with the overtime winner. Theo will have to get back to perfect posturing and positioning if he's going to get back on track.
