Unless we get a front line player there is no way we can trade Jeff Hackett if not for him we may very well have one victory and be out of the playoff race. Granted the Habs seem to be serving up abysmal efforts at home and in front of Theo but Jose is not making those key saves to keep us in games. You have to come back with Hackett thursday we need a chance to win and sadly Theo is not there yet.It is making life difficullt no doubt. HFTO

I'm not too sure how long ago I posted it, but I suggested resigning Hackett regardless. Even if an attractive opportunity comes up to move him, Savard would be dealing from a position of strength. More specifically, team he is trading with would know they are getting a quality goaltender who is under contract, and not an UFA.
There are two problems moving Hackett now, however. Firstly, he's hinted at retirement, which is something opposing GMs can use as a low-ball leveraging tool. And secondly, José can't seem to live up to his trophies from last year. Someone noted that José was at his best when Hack was injured last year. If not, and Savard were to trade Hack, the team would be stuck with adequate goaltending. He wouldn't be able to get him back if.
After reading your postgame report I got the impression support really didn't go either way. José's mates supporting him, or he supporting them (softy JV referred to).
Could it be the Bell Centre curse? Doubt it, but they do play very well away from home.
Cheers.

Good point dis. This team plays horrible on home ice. Most of last year, we were great on home ice(record wise). Now, the team seems nervous on home ice. And it has nothing to do with who is in goal. We played terrible against Ottawa and Anaheim with Hackett in goal as well.
Seems to me when we are at home we should come out firing shots everywhere, putting pressure on the other team, be aggressive, etc. We aren't.

Marc you bring up a great point about how the habs should come out firing the puck on home ice.Last night is a poor example because they really didn't generate any sustained offense but they simply are FANCY BOYS at home trying for that perfect play instead of getting the puck to the net.Surelyyou'd think they wold have figured it out.Even last night trailing by 2 goals they were still looking for that extra pass.GET THE FREAKING PUCK TO THE NET! Give credit to St.Louis they played great but to get only 15 shots at home is a disgrace IMO. HFTO

It seems that trading Hackett is shaping up to be a no-win proposition for the Habs. Given his profile (age, contract status, market conditions) there is no way we can even replace on the ice what he gives us in net. He just keeps playing well, and Savard (I'm sure) is getting weak offers... he'll just look stupid if he trades Hack for a 3rd rounder and Theo continues to struggle.
Like it or not, Hackett is the only thing keeping us competitive right now. I have total confidence that Theo will regain his form, but with the way the team is playing (15 shots) the season could slip away if you remove Hack from the equation.

Facing a struggling Isles team and a depleted Kings team playing it's 2nd game in 2 nights.
