Pierre McGuire said Rivet is waiting for results of X-rays on his wrist and if it shows there is a break, he'll shut it down. It's the same kind of injury Pronger has. It's been bothering him for a year and a half.
So what happens now? does AS go after Yushkevich? looks like Hainsey may stay up the whole year after all.

More info as they replayed a part of the interview:
Rivet went to the same doctor Pronger went to. He also went to a see doctor Friday in Carolina about the wrist.
Then McGuire takes a shot at Regean Tremblay and says people will find out ''who the F'' Is Craig Rivet...

As far as Rivet being gone it would give the Habs an excuse to trade for a big nasty D, and send off Audette and Hackett. I rather like that. Who's up for free agency this year?

Nope. Regean Tremblay. Montreal french paper columnist who has been all over Rivet along with his buddy Michel Bergeron. Yushkevich(a right D) is a UFA after this year. I wouldn't going after him if the price is a Ward. He could also be a great partner for Markov. But for now with no Rivet our D would look like: Dykhuis-Brisebois Markov-Traverse Hainsey-Quintal *gulp* *scary* need Souray back and Hainsey to emerge....

Tremblay wrote an article after the Audette-Rivet altercation, and after Rivet sounded off, asking "Who the F is Craig Rivet??" Spelt out the whole word, in English. McGuire was just throwing it back at him.
Tremblay, along with Jack Todd, are possibly the only two journalists in Montreal who like to play the language game. Shame, really.
Losing Rivet would be a huge blow. Huge. Both on and off the ice. McGuire also said that he didn't think too many eastern teams would be all that eager to deal any defensemen to Montreal, because they know that is Montreal's weakness, and they don't want to help them out at all. McGuire saodMontreal has the goaltending, and they have the leadership and character in Koivu, Gilmour, Juneau and Rivet, all they need is some defensive presence. For that reason, teams in the East would be reluctant to deal any blueliners to Montreal, especially since most teams are looking to upgrade themselves in that area.
Here's hoping Rivet's injury isn't too serious. Like Sheldon Souray, I think most people won't realize just how valuable he is to the team, until he is gone...

Sure he's going to be a UFA, but he's one of those warrirors that will be a valuable commodity as the trade deadline approaches, and i'm betting that contenders like Colorado, Detroit, St. Louis...maybe Philadelphia will all make a pitch for his services. He could be had, for sure, but the Habs would most certainly have to give up more than Ward (or a Ward type...ie. a suspect).

I'd also be surprised if we could get Yuskie for ward regardless of his stus at the end of te year. Not sure Florida is looking for a so called project, and I doubt they'd be interested in Audi.can you imagine Kennan and audi it would make for great media. HFTO

Forget about Colorado they already have 3 right-handed D(Morris, Foote, Blake) Philadelphia are doing so well and have solid defence so I doubt it Blues are a strong possiblity Ditto for Detroit I wonder what the Panthers want...they have the goalie, they have the d-man and they seem to have some decent young forwards.

Incredible. My fingers are crossed that it isn't as serious but he'll still need some time off for sure. If it isn't a terrible disease, a slashed wrist, what-have-you, then it's always something else.
And now Rivet again. He may have made some defensive mistakes, but I've liked the way he's played thus far.
If Savard suspects the injury to be serious enough, there might be some substance to the Pedenault's reference in that Savard is looking at obtaining one of two other defensemen.
Terrible news if true. Cheers.

Here is what RDS has to say:
Par ailleurs, le défenseur Craig Rivet est toujours ennuyé par une blessure au poignet gauche. L'an dernier, Rivet a été opéré à ce poignet, lui qui avait subi une fracture. Rivet a mentionné qu'il souffre toujours et il pourrait même devoir passer de nouveau sous le bistouri. Si c'est le cas, il sera absent de la compétition pour une période minimale de deux mois. Il pourrait même rater le reste de la saison régulière.
He would miss minimum 2 months and maybe the whole year if he goes for surgery.

I think Rivet's had a very poor start to the year, and have said so. If, however, he's been playing with a bum wrist, that might explain part of it. (Embarrassed face). I know that some of those bad passes were brain injuries, but when something's not working well, lots of things are affected. Hope he's ok.

I think that if Rivet need to go through surgery they will wait when Souray come back

I think that if Rivet need to go through surgery they will wait when Souray come back I doubt it. The sooner it gets done the faster Rivet could come back this year. Wrists are a fragile thing, better fix them ASAP..
