They claimed Andrei Zyuzin on waivers today. Yes, THAT Andrei Zyuzin. The guy who was the 2nd pick overall in the 1996 draft. The guy with all kinds of tools, just doesn't know how to use them. Now, he gets to learn under Jacques Lemaire and tries to reach his huge potential.
This is just another example of why this is such a good organization. They get players for almost nothing.
Cliff Ronning? picked up for peanuts
Andre Brunette? picked up as a UFA
Ditto for Zholtok
Do you know how they got Filip Kuba, maybe the most underated D in the game? expansion draft
Number 1 goalie Manny Fernandez? for a draft pick.
Of course they drafted Gaborik, Schultz and the Devils gave them Mitchell in the O'Donnell deal, but they take risks. Those low risks, high reward kind of players.
No one knows if Zyuzin will develop and become a good NHL d-man. But the Wild showed the NHL today how to use the waiver wire and now Zyuzin will get to play for the best coach in the NHL IMO. Zyuzin is talented enough and young enough to become a top pair d-man for the wild and the rest of the league will be in awe of that franchise once again.

Lemaire is the second coming of Bowman.
Maybe even better when it comes to implementing a system.
No more questions please, I am preparing Therriens hockey funeral pyre.

Maybe Marc. That's 3 organizations now that have given up on Zyuzin. Another Bryan Fogarty?

Guys like Ray Whitney, Martin St. Louis and Martin Straka were also waiver fodder on a comple of occasions during their career and they have contributed bigtime to their current teams successes over the last couple of seasons.
I'm not sure that Zyuzin will ever amount to much, but he's a great "gamble" for a young organization like the Wild. That was a good pickup for them...

3 organizations also gave up on Brian McCabe. I am sure I could find other examples IF I had more time... Don't bother. Three organization traded McCabe for some pretty good players. No one put McCabe on waivers.
