Last summer we basically said these 3 players would have breakout years this year...well, 1/10th of the season in and here's what we have:
Saku Koivu: 8 games, 3 goals, 5 assists, 8 points, +1
Richard Zednik:7 games, 4 goals,2 assists, 6 points, -2
Andrei Markov:8 games, 2 goals, 3 assists, 5 points, -1
Not bad eh? of course this is very early but these 3 look poised to have very good and maybe even great seasons if this continues.
Heck, I'll throw in Bulis: 8 games, 1 goal, 4 assists, 5 points, +3
This franchise needs these 4 players to keep playing at this level. For now and the future...

Heck, I'll throw in Bulis: 8 games, 1 goal, 4 assists, 5 points, +3 First line i'll keep saying it all year junea and dacks are workhorses and so are saku and zed bulis will be a bonus on the top line. I know i'm alone here when i say this but the kid is really showing some heart and effort every night so far. he deserves a promotion and if it doesn't work well at least we can still put him where we know he'll excell.

Vipe, you can't put Bulis on the top line for now because it puts the lineup even more out of whack: Zednik has to shift to RW and one of Audette/Petrov/McKay/Dackell has to shift to LW.
it's a good idea but right now we can't do it.

I know this MP but i'm telling ya i wanna see it. When, who know's but i just want to see it somehow done both petrov and Zednik can play either wing i'm sure something can be organized even if it's just on the powerplay for the sake of finding out how it will work.
Lord know's the powerplay could use a little rework right now.

Lord know's the powerplay could use a little rework right now. Actually, we have scored something like 3 goals in our last 7 PP's.

I think we have only one line working well right now and that's the thid (Juneau). Koivu and Zednik are clicking nicely but Mckay looks out of it on most shifts. Bulis should be used to try and add some grit and skating on Perreault's wing. Kilger could take Bulis' spot on Juneau's wing, and either Czerk or Audette steps in on Perreaut's right. Mckay goes down to work with Gilmour on a checking type line until Doug decides it's again time to prove he's not finished, and Petrov steps into Mckay's spot to get him going on Koivu's right. Therefore:
Zednick/Koivu/Petrov
Bulis/Perrier/Czerkawski
Kilger/Juneau/Dackell
Lindsay/Gilmour/Mckay
Audette is the odd man out but if Czerk doesn't get it going he gets his shot. The hard fact of life in Habland is that Czerk and Audette are competing for one spot. Let's make it clear and may the best man win. The other gets moved for next to nothing....

it's still among the worst in the league and has given up 3 goals shorthanded.

Chow will do alot more with Saku than Oleg will IMO. I mean Chow, with a Koivu feeding him, could easily score 30. Petrov? I'd say 20-25 maximum. And man does this team need another big body who can play LW...Hossa may be able to do it very soon IMO. As soon as he gets going in Hamilton, we should find a way to call him up.

Mckay goes down to work with Gilmour on a checking type line until Doug decides it's again time to prove he's not finished..... I didn't catch all of the 3rd yesterday, but wasn't Perrault playing with Gilmour and McKay in the 3rd? At left wing, I think. He got two goals and McKay made a good play on our 5th goal. That might be one line, if MT has enough sense to have Perrault taking the face-offs. I believe Perrault played left wing with Gilmour at one point last year. In fact I remember that at the Calgary game. Overall it didn't have much chemistry. Good post on the coaching staff, JV. How long, if ever, will it take for the media to catch on. Jack Todd's answer last year to MT's lack of success was "Look what he has to work with". And you're right, AV had less and did more. I always liked how he treated his players...thought he was fair. Was not all that impressed with the 'system' used, but that might have something to do with the quality of players he had. At least it wasn't the 'trough' system. You should have called it a ditch system, HA...cause it'sboth sides of the road, I mean rink and they're always ditching the puck.

They used so many combos 17 it's tough to keep track.
But at one point Gilmour was one LW, Perreault at C and Petrov at RW
On the 5th goal, Mac and Perreault were on the ice at the same time

I'm not too concerned where Bulis plays. I'm happy that he is getting alot of ice time which he is on his present line. I'm sure he's happy too given at the beginning many didn't even have him in the line up. I think playing him on this line is good for his defensive game and also makes that line a threat to score. i don't think i would move him to an offensive line yet.
There's no question we have too many peewee forwards. I'm not sure i would say it's Aud v. Cz as I think petrov should watch himself if for no other reason i think other teams might be interested and we would probably get more for him than Aud. Cz may be wanted but he will cost $$.
What i don't understand is with our lack of size up front why is kilger on the 4th line. i thought he played some pretty good games the past couple of weeks. I still believe this is going to be his year if ever. He certainly will not do it if MT doesn't give him the ice time. While i could see moving Bulis to the top line so kilger could get the ice time with Juneau i wouldn't be adverse to seeing kilger with Saku. Get some more banging with Zed and Saku. Kilger may not have the softest hands but i think he might thrive with those two.
