Yushkie is apparently not getting along so swimmingly with Iron Mike in Florida as he struggles to get back to game shape after missing the last quarter of the season plus the playoffs due to a blood clot in his leg.
I watched Yushkie play the last number of years in Toronto and I can tell you he's a stud on defence. He's a very reliable player with good hockey sense. He's a free-agent after this season and will likely be dealt before the deadline.
I would really love to see him on the Habs blue-line paired with Markov or Hainsey. Rivet, Souray, Komisarek, Hainsey, Markov, Brisebois, and Yushkevich. Eventually you move Brisebois once Hainsey and Markov are settled.

I'd love this guy.
He woulld be just what the doctor orders: A defense stabilizer that loves the big hit... He'd be a fan favorite here in no time.

Problem is, how to get him.
Florida would need Rivet + in exchange for him....
Not worried about dealing Rivet as much as the +
Injury and contract situations would need to be looked at too though.
Which side does he play, anyhow ?
BTW Ryan, as much as you might wish Brisebois to leave, he's staying as long as he wants...

I too would love to see Yushkevich in Montreal, but like PTH said, at what cost? Yush is going to be a UFA at the end of the season, and you just know that some team willing to give up young assets (Colorado, Detroit, Philadelphia, etc...) will pony up something interesting closer to the trade deadline for such a solid, rugged d-man.

As Doc says, Yuskie would be just what the doctor orders (he shoots right, by the way). Unfortunately, we don't match up to well with the Panthers. They have a tonne of skilled, scoring wingers, so we can't dump our Audettes or Petrovs on them, and they are set in goal, so they have no need for Hackett and/or Garon. They do need some centers, and some veteran defenceman with bite, but so do we... The other thing to consider is that Yuskie will be a UFA, and his agent is Mark Gandler. I don't see him signing without testing the market first, and with Brisebois and Rivet both over $3 million, we can guess what Dmitri's starting demands will be, and it won't be Karl Dykhuis type numbers... Guy can dream though, eh? Imagine if we could pawn a Quintal, Dykhuis deal off on them? Heck, I'd throw in a prospect or two... Souray - Brisebois Markov - Rivet Hainsey - Yuskevich I'd take that blueline into the playoffs...

Well I guess I was thinking more along the lines of free-agent pick-up in the off-season, but there's probably nothing really drawing him to Montreal.
As far as a deal for him goes I'd have no problems giving up Souray for him. I'm really hesitant to give up Rivet just because he seems to mean a lot to the guys in the room.
And remember, he would have risked his life last year to play in the playoffs, he was willing to sign a waiver releasing the Leafs from legal implications that might result from his death. Heart and soul.

I agree...but UFA at the end of the year Habs are not that close to a cup IF the price is not much(doubt it..say a 3rd rounder) go for it...but an important piece of our future no way
