While this year's draft will not provide much in the way of immediate impact superstars, this forward crop is as rich and deep as any in the last 10 years, and represents the strength of this class. Red Line sees as many as 24 forwards being selected in the first round this season, which would be an all-time high-water mark. - Red Line's final assessment of the forwards

24 forwards? .......sick Little snipets of good info: Sounds like a young Martin Havlat. Sounds like a Young Bertuzzi I am on the Parise/Phaneuf bandwagon's, but if we draft Kastsitsyn or Jessiman, I'll be pretty happy because their upsides look absolutely huge as well.

A good solid forward that can make an impact in a few years is just fine with me. The real skill will be how to pick the right forward that is better than the other 23 that will be beefing up the other teams at the same time. Fun time of the year...look forward to next Saturday (and the 2-3 yrs it will take to properly assess the results, although I am sure we will have some "expert" opinion posts immediately!!).

If Bernier and Stweart go into the corner looking for the puck, Audette isn't likely to bowl them over and gain possession. We could use a Bernier. Maybe he isn't the fastest skater between the blue lines, but in front of the nets and in the corner he will dominate like no other. When Ribeiro does get the puck to Steve in the slot he will bury it! Instead of the Bernier comparison to Bossy, how about comparing Steve to Shutt. Bernier would make Ribeiro or Koivu's passes look good. If the knock on Bernier is his fat, his skating or his first step, those things can be coached and he is reported to be a coachable kid. If the knock on Parise is his size, it's hard to coach size. In addition to size, Bernier can score, he hits, fights with anyone foolish enough to hit him, a great shot and works hard on the ice. A combination of John Ferguson fighting, Steve Shutt wrist shot, Yvon Lambert skating, Gainey hits, and Kordic in the corners is hard to resist. He has Frank Mahovlich straightaway speed with a short Claude Provost stride. He didn't score all those goals as an 18 year old without doing something right.

*please god*
Do NOT let Jiri Hudler and Steve Bernier become star players in the NHL for any other teams EXCEPT the Montreal Canadiens. Or else, we will never hear the end of it from LA.

Read up on Getzlaf and Carter guys. I'm more convinced than ever it's going to be one of those two players the Habs pick with the 10 selection.
I just interviewed two different scouts for a draft story I'm writing for the Ottawa Sun, and both confirmed that the Habs are targeting Getzlaf with 10th pick.
"I've been doing a lot of snooping, and since we're not picking until late, people are a little less reluctant to reveal their favourites," said one scout, who just happens to be a friend of mine.
Here are a few of the rumours he heard: If Florida doesn't trade the first pick, they'll select Horton. If Buffalo holds onto its pick, the club is sold on drafting Vanek.
Nashville is targeting Phaneuf with the 7th pick; if he's gone they'll select Getzlaf.
Montreal's first choice at 10th is Getzlaf. If he's gone, Carter is the target.
Montreal offered Hossa and the 10th pick to Florida for the top pick, but Dudley wanted Ward included. That request has stalled the deal. If Montreal somehow procures the top pick, they will select Staal, which was confirmed by a Montreal scout yesterday that I talked to about the top rated prospect.

Uh oh...hope these sources are wrong..I am definitely not a Getzlaf fan..he'll be a NHLer, but I think there will be better players available at 10...and why would we pick someone with questionable skating? isn't that exactly what AS stays away from with high picks? This sounds like a case of drafting for a need...''so we need a big center...let's pick the biggest center available at 10'' like Getzlaf and Carter..instead of going for the best talent so you are a writer, eh? did the scout confirm the offer was Hossa+10th(if not who did)? or did he only confirm they would pick Staal? Ward+Hossa+10th...man, as much as I like Ward and Hossa, I would have to consider that deal for the top pick

If I'm the Habs (close but no cigar), and I really want one guy, I wouldn't be advertising it to the masses. In fact I'd be advertising some guy who is close, but who I really have no interest in at all, a good character guy with suspect skating....say Getzlaff . And if that trade rumour is true, I'd be sorely tempted to put it together for the #1, though I'd rather throw in a 2nd rounder than Ward. We've spent 4 years developing him, I'd hate to throw those away. Also, I'm not so sure the guy we get at #10 is going to be that much worse than Staal.

turnbuckle,
I occasionally read FLR and I did not make the connection about you until now. Are you also Grant?
You are coming pretty close to claiming that you have "inside" information or at least speaking to people who are "connected". Like I have said before, it is not unusual or impossible that “people know people” and I do NOT doubt what you are saying but you have to understand that in HabsRus, we take this claims a little more caution and , umm, suspicion.
Can you please PM me (or one ot the other mods) with your pen name. Just click on my name and click on where it says “Send this member a private message.”<br> Thanks

If I am AS and I'm targeting someone no one knows about it. Especially not relatively unknown writers from Ontario. I would probably be tempted to spread false rumors though. I really don't buy into those rumors at all. And I'm surprised that anyone would ...
If all your inside info about the habs happen to be true this scout who gave you the information should be lynched.
