Welcome both patate and habitant... How I got here? Stroke of pure luck...I typed in the word: "habsrus" in the search engine and found this place...believe it or not. I am not the kind to sign up to these boards as most of them are filled with immature (mostly young ) posters that spend most of the day saying nothing or insulting others...This site was a breath of fresh air and I have been enjoying my time here over the past couple of years...I also have my favorites but there are too many to mention... HA may be twisted, BC may be long winded, and MR B. may be nuts (this guy really cracks me up), but I can't think over anywhere else I would rather to be to discuss hockey, intelligently. Cheers, THF

Welcome habitant and patate....
I joined this board last year in the fall (there was no rise) of the Therrien-era...and found much solace and comfort, as I live and work in the heart of Leaf country--a dissident subject of King Cole, Prince Neale, and Jester Cherry.
The Code of Conduct on this board is second to none and it ensures respect of everyone's opinions.
The combo of wit and intelligent, informed insights make this board a MUST for all Habs fans.
CHeers...and here's to 5 of 6 this week.

Welcome aboard patate! I'm in Franko's boat. I too survived Sportsnet's old forum, and found out about this place there. Hence the the sentence below my avatar. They redid the board, but the chaos remains.
The netiquette here is unrivalled on the Net. Things get heated from time to time, but never is it personal. That's why I'm here everyday. I look forward to your contributions.

my patience for this team runs thin because of my love for these guys, every play gone wrong i cringe, my own family cannot watch the game with me sometimes because i annoy them with my negativity. You certainly appear to fit in with the rest of the misfits here . Habitant, there are no remote control made on this planet that is safe from a severe beatings. My family knows better then enter the Realm of the Insane One when the Hab's are on TV. Welcome to HabsRus. ;D If you can survive the clowned superheroes that have the CH branded into their chests (foodman, thesaurusman, I-see-no-hope-for-Ribeiro-man, et al) and have the gift of interpretation, you'll do just fine. As long as you are willing to shout out at the top of your lungs LEAFS SUCK!

I was made aware of this place by my buddy Habbadasher...at whom I will make many pointed, comedic comments...all of which should be taken VERY VERY seriously.
I STAYED here due to posters like Mr Bozo - as a long time Hithchikers Guide to the Galaxy fan -(Habbadasher borrowed my copy of the 5 book trilogy - yes Mr B - 6 books sorry) it was heartening to see someone who knew that something was afoot...
And the overwhelming eloquence of most of the posters here is impressive and a joy to read....

Hi and welcome ! I can't really remember how i got here, but it was quite a long time ago. There was that Rival board. I also remember the party this board (I mean the former version) had when Houle and Vignault got sacked. And the time it took to find Habsrus again after the old version wasn't used anymore, when just everybody disapeared How long does that make ? Four years ? More ? I was still on a Pentium 200 at the time

I miss arguing with 14 year olds.... I have a teenaged daughter I'll intorduce you to. No, let me retract that. No daughter of mine is going to have to put up with the rants and raves of a Habs fan . . . until she's been properly taught to protect herself from flying remote controls. The mood swings she has a pretty good handle on, but her's don't match mine! ;D

It looks like everyone here has a favorite poster or two. Who was it by the way? Moi! *pretends to be shy* I went hunting for some Russian bears with my slingshot when I came upon a Russian Hab's site. I posted there and I even tried my hand at some Russian. Unfortunately I still can't live down my first few words in Russian. I wanted to say "you have a great site" and it came out "my thong is too tight"................ www.montrealcanadiens.ru/main1.shtml

Welcome aboard patate! And thanks for the kind words...I think. ;D Don't forget to post and let the chips fall where they may(o). We may be a somewhat rabid bunch and bark loudly sometimes, but we do not bite. As to how I arrived at this circus: I vaguely remember being shanghaied and pressed into service by some stocky, swarthy fellow who's breath was redolent of tzatziki and who sported a tattoo which read "HabsForever" on the inside of one forearm. Now I spend my days chained to a keyboard... Bahhhhh....you love me and you know it! ( )

An ftp/ltv eh? ;D Welcome aboard. I used to read the (mostly Montreal Gazette) articles on faceoff.com almost daily. The comments that people would post there were mostly stupid or insulting but one day somebody posted a link to HabsRus and I thought I'd check it out. I was of course amazed at the level of respect and intelligence on this board and quickly gave up reading the comments on faceoff.com. Before long I even stopped reading the articles as I found the quality and accuracy of the writing here to be much higher. Faceoff.com was my jump off site as well. When it went south, I remembered a similar link posted there about this Habsrus. It took me awhile to come on board, but two people I recognized - Blaise and Habbadasher were here. Two posters I greatly respected and were always on my must read list and as you know, you had to be selective on that site. Habba especially, was a steading force - at least to me! Blaise was ....well...Blaise! They were my main influences in joining this site.......so blame them

I was recruited from hockeysfuture.com by someone called "anonymouse", and I have a nagging suspicion about who that is. While some might complain about the lack of volume, I like a nice simple board where threads have actual content and are worth reading.... there's only so much to be said about the Habs, after all. Once that's said and arguments are well-defined, there's no point in thrashing things out forever.

It was time to bring you in from the cold....... And as far as the guys from faceoff.com, well, some will consider it Gods Good Work to save the lost Hab's souls wondering out there in the harsh, harsh cyber world. If you were "targeted" then resistence was futile! (BTW, yes, I do have a severe case of multiple personality disoder........at least that is what one of myself's says!)

That's indeed quite special. We've had brothers and friends but I believe you own the exculisvity of the father/son setup. Ah . . . I hate to disagree. My so-called middle "child" laughs at me and mocks me for posting here, but he also looks in occasionally . . . and he is the one who encouraged me to drop a few bucks and get a pack of tickets to the Sens. Saw the first game of the season (against the Habs--downer) and am looking forward to seeing the last game of the season against the Leafs (cheering loudly for the Sens that game). I am probebly the only one who has the opportunity to have his 20 years old son not a regular poster but reader known as spider_ice on the same board and he is a good habs fan he just doesn't post at the same hour than me It is a great feeling to have at least something in common with a child, even if it is yelling at the television set for what we see or yelling at wife and daughters (in his case mother and sisters, of course) to be quiet and get out of the room while the game is on!

Well, a common enough story it would appear, but I am also a faceoff.com refugee. I enjoyed the articles there but generally found the discussion rather childish and a lot less inviting.
However, the Hab passion has a much older origin. As the years have passed since I have lived in the land of Kojax burgers, Peel Pub recycled beers, the best bagels, and smoked meat on the Main, I have seen that connection to the Habs increase with the number of greying hairs in my head.
I have found refuge amongst others who have had the opportunity, like myself, of making the trek to hockey Mecca at least once in their lives. It is one of the pillars of this growing religion, but growing up there helped.
I also have found time, through work, to visit other houses of worship to pray homage to the visiting disciples from the House of Bell (nee the House of Molson). Travel with work is not always fun, but when it is wintertime and the trips get me closer to a Habs game...I am not all tears.
All this from a poor lost soul who lives in a corner of the land where outdoor ice rinks start to get a little slushy around the edges in late June. Okay, maybe not that late, but it makes for a good story.

anyways, thank you all, it's always nice to start a day in the office with a good laugh.
