I pretty much thought Milroy was a lock, after his performance lasy year in the Memorial Cup and solid numbers so far this year. Plus he is a solid two-way player. He said he didn't play well in camp, but isn't the coaching staff supposed to look beyond that?
I was looking forward to seeing how he looked with and against top flite competition. Oh well.

Ooops. I knew I couldn't be the first one to hear about that.
Still merits discussion on the "big board", however. To me that's a pretty big mark against Milroy at the moment. This guy was arguably the best player in junior at the end of last year, and to not even make the WJC team? Perhaps he has that "nothing else to learn/prove" syndrome, but playing well to get big time exposure at the WJC should be plenty of motivation.

You have to keep in mind, they are building a team..not the best collection of talent
Maybe Milroy wasn't good enough to make the top 2 lines and they figured he wasn't the kind of player to play a grinding role?
Keep in mind Mike Comrie didn't make that team..3 times! Bouchard didn't make it last year...players who will be great for years to come...
Maybe this is the kick in the butt Milroy needs to get going

Here is what I am saying...
WJC roster set
The forwards are Scottie Upshall, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Jay McClement, Boyd Gordon, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, Matt Stajan, Joffrey Lupul, Greg Campbell, Derek Roy, Jordin Tootoo, Daniel Paille, Brooks Laich and Kyle Wellwood.
Upshall, Bouchard, Lupul, Gordon and Paille are all first rounders who are highly touted...I don't know much about the other guys but they must have offensive talent as well..maybe they thought Milroy wasn't as good as the first 5 guys I mentionned(which may be the case) and thought he wasn't suited for a grinding/defensive role..

Well I think its a bunch of crap, that he got cut. He had 4 pts after 2 days of camp, was the playoff MVP, won a memoria cup, has gotten 179pts in last 2 seasons (not including his 37ish pts this year). He can play in any situation, and is a clutch player. His skating/speed are the only things I can think of that kept him off the team.
Well he did have some poor comments about the camp a few weeks ago. When he was asked about Team Canada, he said he didn't care, he was more worried about why his team (Kootenay) wasn't playing good hockey. I didn't think it was wrong to say, since it shows he cares about his team and not just the individual, but maybe it had a effect on him being cut. I don't know, hopefully he goes on a tear like he did last season right around this time last year. He's playing for a contract this summer.

For once, Montreal, I agree entirely with you. Supposedly Habscheid was given advice by Gretzky...don't just pick the guys who have the best camp, pick players who have proven they are the real goods in tough competition before. If that doesn't describe Milroy, I don't know what does. Perhaps Habscheid is still miffed over not making the Oilers as an 18 year old, those many years ago. I was positive he'd make it, if for no other reason that he has a gift for scoring clutch goals. There's ice in that kid's veins. He has a great wrist shot, excellent anticipation and is certainly strong enough on his skates. Not the greatest top end speed, but he has a very good burst of acceleration, and he always seems to end up in the right place. Now I can't say I know many of the players who did make the team, but perhaps that's a telling statement too. How come I don't know some of these guys? This team may go ahead and win it all, but I'm very disappointed over Milroy and Braydon Coburn being cut. Coburn is a stud, even though he's only 17. Habschedi must have Therrien disease as he didn't keep any 17 year olds, including Nathan Horton. As always, there are 2nd guessers (especially me), but I sure hope this team doesn't fall flat because they couldn't get a key goal here or there.

According to my Hockey News, Linhart isn't on the Czech team either. Not sure why (too old?).
So its Higgins, Perezhoughin and Korneev.
On the bright side, the Russians are an early favorite, so we should get to see a lot of our two Commies, especially if they go far into the medal round...
Remember when you could call somebody a commie, and it was like a real insult?

Watch out for the Czechs...I read at HF their top 2 lines will be:
Michalek(top prospect in 03 draft)-Hudler-Klepis Kreps-Koreis-Taticek
Loads of talent there and the goalie who plays for the Ottawa 67's whose name escapses me now.
Should be a great tourny.
