I have a friend reporter (not sports) connected in some ways to the Aulin family. This is the second time in 3 years that friend claims to have news regarding the habs. The first time was just before Weinrich got traded. Apparently Lacroix offered Aulin for Weinrich but Savard wanted a NHL player. A few days later Aulin was part of the package offered to LA for Blake. This time the names mentioned are Rivet, Perreault and a low pick for Stumpel and Aulin... Not a very sexy deal isn't it? My friend is not exactely a sport freak and was 'wrong' the first time, so... As for Gainey's motivation we can only speculate. Stumpel is bigger, moving Rivet means a spot for Komisarek and Aulin is a nice prospect but Brown, Frolov and Cammarelli seem ahead in the depht chart. Also I think that to move Rivet (still a lot of money attached to him for another 3 years) the Habs need to accept a veteran in return but I don't know how much Stumpel is earning this season... But we need a scorer and Stumpel is a playmaker

Not to doubt your friend or anything, but Aulin had shoulder surgery and is out until February.
Stumple too, is hurt, but he should be back fairly shortly.

I know but I don't think Aulin would be able to earn a spot in Montreal in the short term anyway. It does look weird to deal for two injured players but it's not as if we need warm bodies... Rivet is just about to lose his spot to Komi no matter what and Perreault is playing out of position and every three games...
My personal opinion is that Rivet is here to stay because of his contract. Perreault will eventually be moved for very little because of his UFA status.

Here are Aulin's numbers from the past: www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=31167Not bad. A point per game last year on the farm. I know the name, but not much else. Anyone have anything to say about him? Stumpel is a good playmaker, but as was stated above we need goals. Jozef doesn't really bring that to the table. He is bigger than Ribs and Perreault but doesn't play bigger. I'm not sure what the motivation behind this deal would be unless BG had something else in the works.

Here's what the hockey forecaster says about Aulin.
He's a gifted offensive player with all the tools to be a prominent NHLer, although he does lack size and strength.
He is 21, 6'0 180 lbs and shoots right.

By sniffing around boards today, there is two rumors about the habs
Stumpel + Aulin
And Gratton
I don't care if thoses rumors are true or not but there is two things jumping out when looking at the players mentionned:
One: Both main pieces(Gratton and Stumpel) are centers with size.
Two: Both are faceoff specialists.
Yes rivet has been mentionned a lot but it's clear Perreault is on his way out, be it included in this trade or very soon after that.
And that is good. I like perreault the person but we have too much similar to him in this lineup.
Best regards

I haven't seen the Gratton one. Personally I don't care for either Stumpel or Gratton. I feel that they are both underachievers, but I like the idea of Aulin. I think he will develop into a pretty good player.

Low end being a Brad Chartrand, Jason Blake type guy. The biggest downside I see right now is he has had injury troble since turning professional. He was a very good offensive player in junior.

Sometimes I wonder if guys are just brittle, or if they aren't in good enough shape to handle the beating this game gives.
