The Hamilton Bulldogs will be featured eight times on a television deal between the American Hockey League and Rogers Sportsnet that is being announced at noon today.
The package of 11 games, that includes the AHL All-Star Game, begins next Wednesday with the St. John's Maple Leafs taking on the Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum.
The Bulldogs will shown eight times.
The St. John's Maple Leafs will be on six times while the Saint John Flames and Manitoba Moose will each be shown four times.
Only two of the Bulldogs' games -- Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1, both with the Manitoba Moose at Hamilton -- will be shown on Sportsnet's Ontario network.
The other Hamilton games will be shown on Sportsnet's Eastern or Western networks. Some local cable companies, including Mountain Cablevision, offer those channels.
Cogeco does not. Viewers who have LookTV, Bell ExpressVu or Star Choice will also be able to pick them up.
"In the big picture I think this is great for the league," said Bulldogs' president Steve Katzman.
"It's great for us in our relationship with our corporate partners knowing that we can now go to them, especially the national companies and tell them that we're on regional and national television."
Because the league struck the TV deal with Rogers Sportsnet, the Hamilton club backed off on its negotiations with Score TV.
Katzman confirmed that the Score deal is now dead although the Bulldogs are going ahead with an arrangement with Cable14 to show approximately eight games, including this Saturday when the Albany River Rats come to Hamilton.
Here is the Rogers Sportsnet TV package that is being announced today:
Wednesday, Nov. 20, St. John's at Hamilton (Sportsnet East).
Friday, Nov. 22, St. John's at Hamilton (Sportsnet East).
Tuesday, Jan. 7, Hamilton at St. John's (Sportsnet East).
Wednesday, Jan. 8, Hamilton at St. John's (Sportsnet East).
Friday, Jan. 17, Saint John at Hamilton (Sportsnet East).
Friday, Jan 31, Manitoba at Hamilton (Sportsnet Ontario, Manitoba).
Saturday, Feb. 1, Manitoba at Hamilton (Sportsnet Ontario, Manitoba).
Monday, Feb. 2, AHL All-Star Game from Portland (Sportsnet national).
Wed. March 19, Saint John at Hamilton (Sportsnet East).
Wed. April 2, Manitoba at St. John's (Sportsnet East, Manitoba).
Friday, April 4, Manitoba at St. John's (Sportsnet East, Manitoba).
