The Hamilton Bulldogs suffered their first overtime loss of the season on Friday night, as they dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Flames at Harbour Station in Saint John, New Brunswick.
The Bulldogs scored the game's first two goals, as Benoit Gratton and Jani Rita scored second period goals for Hamilton.
Saint John would respond with three unanswered goals to win the game. Former Oilers draft pick Matthew Lombardi scored a second period goal and Martin Sonnenberg had a goal in the third to even the game for Saint John.
At the 1:34 mark of overtime Lombardi scored his second goal of the game for the Saint John victory.
In goal Ty Conklin made 26 saves on 29 shots for Hamilton. Flames goaltender Lavente Szuper stopped 31 shots to earn the win.
Hamilton was 0 for 5 on the power play, while Saint John was 2 for 4.
The Bulldogs will look for redemption tomorrow night as they take on the Flames in a rematch in Saint John. Bulldogs fans can listen to all the action beginning at 5:45 p.m. on 820 CHAM-AM.
