In a few days we will have the anniversary of September 11 upon us. Because the event is a large part of our life I thought it would be fitting to have a thread on this even though this is a hockey board. I will write about my experience in a few days and I am sure that others will too. I just want to remind everybody that the event have not forsaken the principles that make this board what it is. Post your thoughts and experiences but please, please do not start an anti-Arab attack or a hate attack on a group of people. The actions of a few do not speak for an entire Arab or Muslim community. Here is an interesting site. www.frugalsites.net/911/

I actually started this in the Non-hockey topics board. But, I'll post it here too I guess.
The events of September 11 are still etched in my mind. The sight of seeing the twin towers of the World Trade Centre (WTC) is a sureal picture that simply doesn't go away. However, Whether at the WTC, the Pentagon, or on flights United 175, United 93, or American 77, approximately 3,000 people were needlessly murdered in one of the most cowardly acts any of us have ever witnessed.
Twenty-four Canadians, as well as, three people with strong Canadian connections were among them as well. Their names are as follows; Michael Arczynski (45), Garnet (Ace) Bailey (53), David Barkway (34), Ken Basnicki (48), Joseph Collison (50), Cynthia Connolly (40), Arron Dack (39), Christine Egan (55), Michael Egan (51), Albert Elmarry (30), Meredith Ewart (29) and Peter Feidelberg (34), Alexander Filipov (70), Ralph Gerhardt (34), Stuart Lee (30), Mark Ludvigsen (32), Bernard Mascarenhas (54), Colin McArthur (52), Michael Pelletier (36), Donald Robson (52), Ruffino (Roy) Santos (37), Vladimir Tomasevic (36), Chantal (Chanti) Vincelli (38), Debbie Williams (35), Frank Joseph Doyle (39), Jane Beatty (53), and LeRoy Homer (36). These people were needlessly killed.
Later, in April of this year, Canada also lost four soldiers who had deployed to Afghanistan to combat the evil responsible for these crimes. Their names are as follows; Sergeant Marc Leger (29), Corporal Ainsworth Dyer (24), Private Nathan Smith (26), and Private Richard Green (21). As with most soldiers, they died in the service of others.
It's hard not to think of the surviving family members and friends when remembering these people. On September 11, please take a little time out your day to pay respects not only to the memory of the victims, but their families as well. Also, remember and be grateful for what you have. I know I am. Rick Landry

I don't think I'll watch TV at all that day. In fact, I have tried to stay away from any non-sports programming the last week or so. There are too many shows on that fateful day. It still hurts too much. I can't see an airplane or a skyscraper without thinking about that horrible day. I can't imagine how people in NYC feel.

I'll do the same thing Habernac, last night I just watched CNN for 5 minutes and I wanted to vomit when I saw those towers burn down and Osama's "/"*&(?*&?** ugly face.

Guys, is this thread really appropriate, especially in the hockey forum ? We come here to escape it all....
I don't want to get into big geopolitical debates here, and discussing stuff like this can lead to some pretty nasty stuff....

I started this in the "non-topics" board, PTH. I don't think it's inappropriate, but I'll try to move this string into there intact nonetheless.
If any of the moderators have a differining opinion, please drop me a line. Thanks. Cheers.

To be fair to you and others, Marc, I moved this topic here because I wanted to avoid a debate as to whether it should be on the main board or not. PTH made his feelings known as did you.
However, I thought that might have started a debate, not necessarily between you and PTH, but from others taking the two sides. A debate such as this would have outright ruined the message HA wanted to convey.
This was the only reason I chose to do it. Cheers.

I thought I could escape it here. Sigh! I haven't forgotten it. We can't forget it, but we are constantly being told of more attacks. We are on an "Orange" alert in the U.S. as of this morning. It was a "Yellow" alert upgraded to "Orange" because it was learned that their was a high possibility of attack on the Anniversary of 9/11. I'm not even turning on the TV tomorrow. After what I learned in May on how the CIA and the government knew of this 3 years ago and blew their chance of getting someone inside, constantly hearing about "new attacks" has gotten me to the point I don't even want to hear about it. I will stay aware. I will be on watch for "monkey business" but I don't like the constant reminders. Sorry for being a party pooper, but too much has happened in the last year for me to want to even talk about it.
