Just read a different piece on Canoe.ca www.canoe.ca/CNEWS/pot_sep4-cp.htmlIt seems a Senate Committee has tabled a recommendation for the legal use of pot. I've heard that pot has been used for medicinal purposes. A few years back I read in the Ottawa Sun of a man who was diagnosed with full-blown aids. He was given 3 months to live. However, the man in question was given the ok by the courts to cultivate the plant and use it only for therapeudical purposes. Probably on the premise, what has he got to lose I suppose. The result; his life expectancy was upgraded to 3 years. The article says cannabis is not as dangerous as alcohol. Interesting anyway. Cheers.

It's funny how corporate America try to create an image of pot as a harmful, amoral drug, while condoning the use of alcohol and cigarettes. What it comes down to, is that they haven't found a way to control, and make money off of it, as they have with the latter two. They could care less about our health.
While I do agree with some of the recommendations in the above article, I don't think it would be a good thing if pot were ever as readily available as alcohol and tobacco. I am concerned about the health and social issues that a legalized, freely distributed marijuana would lead to. I do think it should be legal for therapudic use, and I don't think anyone should have a criminal record for posession, but I'd hate to see it sold in convenience stores.

That's a pretty good way of looking at it Andrew. You may be very right insomuch as they haven't figured out how to control it and how to profit from it.
I spent 5 years in Germany, '86 to '91. I know in some of the more liberal-thinking European countrys it's tolerated but not totally legal.
In Holland for instance there are specific places, cafés I guess, where you may smoke it. However, I've also seen the Dutch police escort someone away for misusing it.
However, I also agree that it shouldn't be as readily available as alcohol and cigarettes. It would be a recipe for danger. I also think medical professionals still haven't figured out just how medicinally advantageous it can be. I guess they won't until they're permitted to test it long-term.
Hard to say anyway. That AIDS patient I was referring to was in the news about 4 years ago or so. I don't know what his condition is now. Would be interesting to find out though.
Cheers.
