This situation with baseball should be interesting, I think it may reflect on the potential Hockey problems that are right round the corner. I for one am not a fan of baseball so I hope that they strike and it lasts a long time, This may show the NHL that they must avoid the same path and solve any potential disputes early on. A long baseball strike may be extremely damaging to the MLB. As would a long work stoppage would be for the NHL, I hope the league is paying attention.

I think the circumstances are different for both sports. The 1994 strike did some serious damages to baseball. Sure, eventually most of the fans came back, but not all of them did. IMO, the 1995 NHL strike did not have nearly the same impact on the fanbase. I haven't heard one person say ''I stopped following the NHL because of the 1995 strike'' The problem with baseball is, the union is so bloody strong and powerful, you basically have to play extreme hardball to win a battle against them. They are 8-0 and knowing the owners with Bud at the helm, it could very well be 9-0 after this one is resolved. Plus, salaries are just so out of whack in MLB it's ridiculous. Give the NHL credit, aside from the Rangers spending stupidly(as always) most of the teams have not overspent on tons of free agents and the best players in the league have been earning around 10 million for a few years now. It's not that way in MLB, the highest salary is 25 million, there are plenty of players making around 20 million and a mediocre player can make 4-5-6 million easily. And the fans are so sick and tired of this sh*t, it could get real ugly(I mean this would be the 9TH work stoppage since the 70's! )
