Seeing as nobody's posted here yet, I'll get the ball rolling. I just moved into a house with 4 of my friends as roomates. We've been here since May 1st, and are going to throw a party this weekend. While cleaning up the basement today, we found a bunch of old medals. They are track and field medals belonging to someone by the name of Harold Norpoth. One of the medals is an Olympic silver medal from the 5000 meter race in 1964, Tokyo Japan. I verified the result on the internet at the following link: www.billrodgers.com/runningWise/classicCorner/classic_cc_bobSchul.htmKind of cool. Maybe I can pawn it on e-bay (kidding).

Andrew that's an awesome find. I've had minor track and field experiences in the past and would consider a find like this to be gold.
I'm 43-years-old and my last competative 100 meter was in 1994 in a meet my Regiment held just about every year. Until we ran out of money that is. I finished second in the final to a 23-year-old, but the 4 X 100 meter relay team I was part of took gold.
I also took part in Brigade Sports Days when I was with the Brigade in Lahr, Germany from '86 to '91. You wouldn't believe it Andrew. You would have thought it was the Olympics or something. For instance the winning time in the 100 meters was somewhere around 11.1. In 1990, the 100m and 200m was won by a "Vandoo" (or a soldier belonging to the 1st Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment). I remember his first name, Martin. His time was 10.99 for the 100 m, and 22.00 flat for the 200 m. Needless to say, I didn't make the final in either. Like I had a chance. But, again, the 4 X 100 m relay I ran in took bronze. That might not mean too much, but we were all over 30 years of age. Shwing!
Anyway, you tweeked a nerve when you mentioned an Olympic medal in track and field. I'm actually envious. Thanks for the info. Cheers and thanks Andrew.
