I'll ask the moderators for a little leeway on this one. Thanks guys. I'll move it over to the non hockey stuff when the URL expires tonight. Ontario is losing one heck of a basketballer in my neice, Sara Hrehoriak. Another Ontario-based player going out of province to play because of the provincal policies. www.canada.com/ottawa/sports/story.asp?id={E8DE4FAF-7383-443C-BE5A-B06F21BB2086}It's her best move actually. She has a chance to earn two degrees in five years by attending U of Manitoba on a full scholarship. And note that my 18-year-old neice is mentioning not only herself, but how this move will benefit her family as well. We're all proud of her. Thanks guys. Cheers.

Isn't there a slight age difference between you and her Paul?

Isn't there a slight age difference between you and her Paul? Not that much, and anyhow, she seems real mature

She is extremely mature for her age, Paul, you are indeed right.
The thing is she is still being contacted by Division I American schools who want her to play south of the boarder. She also had the head coach for the U of Miami fly in from Florida to meet her and her family in Ottawa, but she's now opted for Canada for several reasons.
She openly admitted to me that she isn't tall enough to make the WNBA and that her chances of making that league anyway, regardless of her height, weren't all that good.
That admission comes from an 18-year-old.
She and her mother were flown out to U of Manitoba and she was introduced to anyone who is anyone in that university. She practiced with the team, had the red carpet treatment, yadda, yadda, yadda ...
AND, her main focus is now on two degrees in five years; one in Kineseology (sp) and a second one in teaching. This is an offer that wasn't available south of the boarder. So, now it's education and life-path vs. a system that "might" be there, "might" give her a degree in something else other than what she really wants. And, it'll all be paid for by U of Manitoba.
She's currently in Niagara Falls playing competative ball until her semester starts at U of M. She'll be up here in Kingston to play at the end of the month. It's too bad that Ontario can't get their act together. She could have stayed living at home in Ottawa while attending the U of Ottawa. Her long-time coach, Murray Shoup, was also quoted in the paper as saying it's a shame Ontario is losing so many good athletes, but what do you expect the kids to do? They'll take the best offer given to them.
Though it isn't the all-American dream; kid-from-the-projects-makes-in-sports; it is nice to see middle class folks, like my family, getting a break for a change.
Just darn proud of her I reckon. Oh, and anyone who lands her will have one heck of a catch. Thanks a bundle guys.
Cheers.
