In this respect, I sincerely DO hope it is all about oil, because the US and the international community will then have a vested interest in making long term monetary, humanitarian, and military committments to Iraq. Unlike in Afghanistan, which has little to nothing to maintain international attention.

Sure, let's play the circle game:
Giving terrorists a rationale to attack you is shortsighted. Although, it does provide one with the best possible excuse to go on a worldwide headhunting expedition. And once that program has been embarked on it can be extended to bring into play an agenda that's been waiting a decade in the shadows.
