Congratulations to Mike Weir on winning the most vaunted tournament in golf lore, the Masters. Mike played a gutsy fourth round, shooting 68 to get into a playoff with Len Mattiace. He won on the first hole of the playoff.
Weir is the first Canadian to win a major championship, and only the second lefty to ever do so. The last lefty won a major in 1963. Mike showed great intestinal fortitude all week long as he continued to sink the 6-10 foot putts on greens that us mere mortals can only dream about. The flat stick was indeed hot, as were his precision wedges, and his accurate drives. The lad brought his best game, and will now go down in the annals of golf history.
Way to go Mike. You've done your country proud. And you look great in green.

I was hoping someone would post this up. If not, I certainly was.
A left-handed, Canadian winning one of the most prestigious golf tournaments on the tour. I wondered how he was going to rebound from yesterday's terrible round, but he came through with flying colours.
And it is an outstanding accomplishment too. If these guys don't make the cut, they don't get paid. They have to actually PERFORM, in order to see cash.
Excellent new, Ged, thanks.
Cheers.

I am not sure how Mike got through the final round without having a heart attack, cause I almost had one for him. I was extremely happy to see Mike pull this one off. Shows his grit, character and determination. Plus, it was an obvious display of mental toughness.
I was also thoroughly pleased that Mike was the first lefty to win a major in 40 years (or so) especially after Phil Mickelson's C0CKY comments on Tuesday:
Something to the effect of:
Reporter: "Who do you think will be the next Lefty to win a major?" Mickelson: "I won't answer that question...it's pretty obvious, isn't it?"
I used to like Phil, but this arrogance really got me going and was thrilled to death that Mike Weir showed him up.
Congrats Mike. You have made us extremely proud.
Can't wait to take the clubs out!

Sunday was a great day for Canada in sports. Mike winning that awful Green Jacket (Hey, he's ready for his 2nd career in used cars), the Ferbey rink taking the world curling crown, Paul Tracy and the Players team winning their 3rd straight CART race, and the Expos beating the Mets from behind. The Blue Jays lost, but we sometimes wonder if they're really from Canada anyway. Yup, helluva day.
