Anyone else hear it? Real classy. Makes me proud of the 6 or so people in my section that sat during the American anthem at the Corel Centre Saturday night -- at least their protest was silent.

As is the case on both sides of the boarder, it's probably the actions of a very few individuals who honestly need the attention.
That doesn't make it right though. Immaturity at best.
Cheers.

It isn't like this isn't a first occurence. NYI fans have done it before, as recently as last season during the playoffs against the Leafs. I believe they even started chanting "USA" during the anthem.
Quite frankly, I'm sick of it. Especially after the alleged incident in the Team USA women's locker room.

Damn Yankees. They even did this last year against Toronto; they even burned a Canadian flag!
But of course nobody's going to get into an outrage about this...because they're Americans, and "they can do whatever they want".
Oh, and, uh, it's not just hockey where national anthems are being booed.

Hey guys, careful with your anti-American rant. We have posters from all over the world and USA here so we need to be careful and respectful.
The acts of a few do not carry the voices of the many.

An NHL game is not the place for National Anthem singing IMO. The poeple playing do not represent the country their team is in at all.
Singing National Anthems is a very definit patriotic and political thing to do. So when you do it in futil events like NHL games then you lower the level of respect it should normally command. Hearing "O Canada" between "Who let the dogs out" and "la danse des canards" doesn't make much sense.

Amen to that. But team sports are simulated war after all. No, but it certainly is a hilarious juxtaposition.

Well it's dissapointing to hear that this happened, but it's not like they're the only ones doing it. If we don't want our anthem booed, then we shouldn't have done it to theirs... If it doesn't happen again here in Canada, then i don't think they will do it to us next year. Thankfully the SENS silenced the crowd in double OT ;D... Sitting down to the US anthem is nothing to be proud of in my opinion, how can you excpect respect when you don't show it? Both nations seem to be quite hypocritical, we're both disrespecting eachother, but we're blind to the fact that it's not just one side doing it.

I'd have to respectfully disagree, my post was no more anti American than your Bagdad Bob piece anti Iraqi. I moved this thread to where it belongs. It is not Hab's related and flag burning, anthem booing are political statements. The Bagdad Bob piece was a satire on a somewhat dellusional man. Nothing in that piece had any bias against the Iraqi people. The reason I put it in the Hab's Discussion Board was that it was Hab's and hockey related satire.

Frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a.......
over either anthem being booed. It's a mountain from a mole hill situation. Better left ignored.

You are correct HA, this is a better spot for this discussion. I don't actually think your post was anti Iraqi -- but I also didn't think mine was anti American. We'll let this die now and I'll better mind where my posts are directed.
