www.tsn.ca/cfl/news_story.asp?id=39815TSN.ca Staff 5/1/2003 MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Alouettes released troubled running back Lawrence Phillips on Thursday. "Lawrence Phillips did not meet the minimum behavioural standards expected from the Montreal Alouettes Football Club and has been released by the organization,'' the team said in a brief statement. It did not explain why Phillips was released and said it would be the team's "only statement'' on the issue. A report in Montreal la Presse in February said Phillips, 27, would be let go due to his behaviour and because of his repeated knee injuries. Phillips walked out on the Alouettes midway through the 2002 season, but returned a few days later. He then helped Montreal win the Grey Cup in Edmonton in November. The former NFL first-round draft pick had a promising career in the United States cut short by disciplinary problems and run-ins with the law. He was let go by three NFL clubs.

The Als are screwed! First Haskins, then Pringle, now Phillips? They've lost 2 of their 3 MVP's from 2 years ago and now the replacement is gone too.
