Sorry, I know this is a hockey board, but things are pretty slow right now and the Expos are on fire. I'm loving this as much as anyone (huge baseball and Expos fan), but I'm just not sure they can sustain this level for another 4 months. They are getting it done with pitching more than offense, but I would be amazed if guys like Zach Day and Claudio Vargas can keep up this level of performance. If either or both of them falters, then we could be in trouble. The offense is basically in the middle of the pack in the NL, buy Vlady really hasn't exploded yet. I would love to see some more pop in the lineup - some of the Expos fans over at Fanhome are calling for Minaya to try and swing a trade for Roberto Alomar. He would be a nice fit (Latin, veteran, native of Puerto Rico), but you know that Omar is going to try to swing some kind of trade if this team is still in the hunt by the All-Star break. Maybe by then they will be drawing 10,000 fans.

Yup, Spos with their best start in history! Hopefully the injury bug does not hit us hard..we've already lost Armas and El Duque for the year and there is not much depth at AAA if we lose another pitcher or two. The offence should only get better as Vlad heats up. The bench has been unbelievable. Mostly composed of kids, they have had alot of at-bats(good job Frank) and are coming up big off the bench or when they start. The no-name bullpen has been rock solid. I really doubt Minaya can add something though. No payroll room unless someone takes Tatis and his 6.5 mil pricetag in any deal...

Agree. For the Expos to do a deal for a guy like Alomar, the Mets would have to be willing to eat his salary if they get a decent prospect in return. Problem is that the Expos pretty much drained the system of their top prospects in the Colon and Floyd deals last year. I like the Alomar idea, since he also is a free agent after the season. If the Mets are out of it by the All-Star break, the Mets will be looking to inload him.
The only hope is that you make a deal close to the deadline - when a large chunk of the player's salary has already been paid. Also, Tatis is easier to move as the season moves along, as he will be a free agent after the season and you only have to pay him for a couple of months. It would help if he could get his average above .200, however.

I am not crazy over that Alomar idea. The team is going so well now I wouldn't change anything, no point in screwing up chemistry. Plus getting Alomar means moving Vidro to 3B, a position he has not played in a looooong time.

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I was wondering if their great start has translated into higher attendance at the O?

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I was wondering if their great start has translated into higher attendance at the O? They are averaging just a bit under 10K per game in Montreal(the Puerto Rico avg is not in there)...it's still pretty pathetic but we've seen alot worse the past few years..

They keep winning and people will come. Forget the location, the Big O is only a 10 min Metro ride from downtown, the worst thing they ever did was close the roof. Montrealers have no interest in spending their summers indoors. After months of snow and sleet they want to be out in the sun. You open up that roof and the attendance doubles, write it down.

well, they won yet again last night..despite missing 2 of their best starters, 3 of their regulars to minor injuries, they are still winning games and are 4-1 on this homestand.. They are certainly compensating for the lack of excitement the Habs provided most of the year. oh and 33K last night for 5$ night and 1$ hot dogs..they sold 11K tickets between 6 pm and 7:30 pm

Well, despite being on a hellish 22 game/25 day road trip, with their best player out with a back injury and with 3/5's of their expected opening day pitching rotation on the shelf...the Spos have won 5 in a row..and are 6-8 on this road trip....last night they soundly beat Matt's Mariners 7-3...
Frank Robinson HAS to be THE candidate for manager of the year.

WOW. I got to watch only my third Expos game of the season tonight and it was great! Down 8-2 in the 8th they came back to win 9-8 in 11 innings on a series of mistakes by the Braves. Now back to 3 games over .500 with the amazing comeback, if they are ever going to make a run at the wildcard this would be the time to do it.

That was amazing indeed That's the beauty of baseball..there is no clock and you can score runs pretty fast thanks to homeruns. The return of Vlad is huge...it just gives everyone some confidence. Having Ayala back also came in handy last night as he did a great job holding the line in the 10th and the 11th when the Braves were putting guys on.

They did it again today ;D after being down 4-0 in the 1st and 8-4 in the 6th...Expos win 13-10 I caught the end of the game today and the Big Uh-Oh sounded really 'alive' to me... The TBS announcers mentioned it too. I really think they'd get bigger crowds if they opened up the roof. I've been there with the roof open and the difference in the atmosphere is incredible.

Man, maybe the habs can play like this... It seems llike in the past few games when the Expos do something wrong they always correct it down the line. Hopefully they'll win again and the Marlin's will lose

If they get into the playoffs, I'll be more thrilled than anyone, as I was a baseball fan before a hockey fan.
If they then proceed to leave, I'll weep. I don't cry often (I can't remember the last time I did), but I'll cry then.
Then I'll have to re-evaluate the purpose of living in this city, something I thought I would never do.
