Here are the facts that I've read: (Source: 6/4/2003 AP article posted at TSN's web site www.tsn.ca/mlb/news_story.aspid=43387 ) - In Tuesday's Cubs game, a broken bat of Sosa's was found to have been corked. - Sosa has denied allegations of being a cheater, with the following defense: "Sosa said he accidentally pulled out a bat he uses to put on home run displays for fans in batting practice and swore that he's never done anything illegal. If he was trying to cheat, he said, why wouldn't he have tried to grab the bat before anyone saw it?" - MLB claim to have confiscated 76 of Sosa's bats and X-Rayed them, finding no traces of cork. - MLB claim to have X-Rayed 5 of Sosa's bats that were donated to the hall of fame, and found no traces of cork.

Sosa had been struggling recently after coming off the DL with a foot injury. IMO, Sosa was frustrated and decided to use his corked bat to hit a couple of homeruns to get going once again. Would I call him a cheater? perhaps...but all the other bats have come in clean...

Would I call him a cheater? perhaps...but all the other bats have come in clean... I don't buy it. Why would he risk his reputation for a couple of homeruns? Call me naïve, but I believe Sammy; he's one of the good people. Besides, it's debatable whether a corked bat even makes a difference...

We have found the BMD (Bats of Mass Destruction). He's a cheat and should have been using steroids like Mark McGwire.
Barry Bonds, baby! An @sshole with integrity toward the game.
