Power starting to return in places like Detroit, Cleveland, NJ and some parts of New York.
Ontario appears to still be pitch black for the most part.

good to see ya online HA and Bozo. Hope everything's OK.
PS, this is nothing compared to the 1998 ice storm for most here in the Montreal area.

Montreal was barely affected by the power problems anyhow; Hydro-Québec is on a separate power grid. This power outage isn't as bad as the ice storm anywhere, but it's on a far, far larger scale. It's essentially ruined my vacation plans, airline schedules have totally fallen apart.

We were camping at Bon Echo Park when we first heard of it. Mrs. Dis dilberately chose a site with no electical outlet (the army days, oh the pain), so no harm was done to us or other campers really.
The pay phones at the site only accepted cards, which we didn't have of course. It was the first time I had seen booths that didn't accept coins; odd. And our cell phone displayed "no service" and so we had to use the truck radio to get our updates.
However, I did call my dad, who lives in Ottawa and he said they were without power for nine hours. Not enough time for eveything to thaw so that was a relief. Yet, there are parts of Ottawa that have only recently had their power restored.
PTH, the park we were at has it's electricity supplied by Hydro Quebec. They were one of the first to receive their power back. I haven't read too much on it, but the preliminary reports were saying something about the Niagara region being affected, which in turn, affected the whole eastern seaboard.
As a matter of fact, Kingston was fortunate insomuch as, we only lost power for a five-hour period. We're still being advised about periodic outages for restoration, etc, but as I was saying, we've been lucky.
Cheers.
