This place is getting more popular then free beer at Hooters.....a church gathering!
We have grown but have remained true to the founding philosophy of this forum.
Respect for each other and intelligent discussion.
You guys make this the best sports community on the net.

as long as the mods here retain their nazi like grip over the postings everything is great.. but start letting things slip, a la hfboards and we might end up with an immature love fest.
so.. the thing i absolutely love about habsrus are the moderators. you guys do an AMAZING job of directing the conversation and stepping in when things need stepping in to.
and as more people come on i just hope you guys can keep up!

My parents were natives of one of those countries (Estonia) that were occupied by the Russians. So the language was learned at virtual/literal gun-point by the citizens. Czerkawski, as Blaise pointed out in a recent post, underwent the same ritual. As you can appreciate, with Glasnost people of the formerly occupied countries did not feel the the same compunction to either learn or use the Russian language. It is, however, worthwhile for people who still live in the region to know it for purely economic reasons. Immigrants from the formerly occupied countries generally feel no such compunction, and as a rule do not pass knowledge of their country's occupier's language on to their offspring. |

While the mods may rule with a velvety gloved iron fist, or at least several wiffle bats, its the high standard of the contributors that make this such a great place to drop in. Where else can you get a crash course in foreign languages and learn that smoking a cigarette in bed causes detumescence?

I'm just fascinated by russian culture, history and women, so i started learning last year. (Raskolnikov is the main character in Dostoievsky's crimes and punishment) I've read that some former soviet country (from the baltic area, Estonia may be one) now have some law inspired by Quebec's bill 101 to protect their own language. Nice to see we're not alone in the fight for cultural differences. By the way, it took me a while to understand one word of your signature, only to realize later it was "NHL" Do svidania! |

Je suis Québecois d'origine et j'ai appris mon anglais sur le tas, et au travail. Je n'ai jamais été très bon dans les langues, alors n'apprendre une troisième, je crois que je vais laisser passer Je ne sais pas à quel point Google traduit bien l'allemand à l'anglais, mais quand même le résultat est souvent surprenant. D'ailleur y'avait-pas quelqu'un qui utilisait un logiciel de traduction pour traduire des articles en russe? C'était pas toi Bozo, ou montreal? |

Quand je traduis du Russe, j'ai habituellement le contrôle de Tattac avant que je signale l'article. Je renvoie la faveur quand elle traduit. Nous avons une bonne collaboration. Your English is very good. Mon français est très "textbook". |
