I was just wondering... I like all I have heard about him (drafted late rounds last year, strong season this year) But I was thinking... Was this kid not drafted very early in the qmjhl draft (when he was entered?) I only slightly remember hearing this so I may be wrong. Also, if anyone knows... what are his strengths and weaknesses? And finally, how many of you all think he has a chance of making it/ when?

He didn't light up the red light in QMJHL like Thinnel did but he is tough and we need tough. He is a late bloomer.

He scored the winner in ot vs Halifax last night. He needs some improvment in his skating to say the least. Otherwise a power forward with a great shot. 'Skate, skate, skate', I can hear CJ now. Petr Vrana looks awesome for the Moose, speed to burn. EDIT: I'm watching the replay of the game on our local cable channel as I type this mess EDIT2 JF Cyr may be worth another look at training camp. EDIT3: Nicholas Laplante from Acadie Bathurst looks like a good prospect for the upper rounds. Very hard worker, loves to hit , good skater, good size. I was actually planning to attend the game but we had a freaking ( thanks Marc) snow storm.

Oh gosh Marc, not your fault for the weather, just that I stole one of your words 'freakin' and of course I mispelled it into freaking. This sure can be a handy, but safe word at times.

So he has the talent but is a weak skater? So sorry Jeff, my brain is mush with CNN war coverage. I think that AS drafted Ferland with an eye on his physical presence, but then the guy goes out and scores 40+ goals, gets invited to Team Canada's junior camp, keeps scoring in the playoffs, and presto we have a bona-fida prospect on our hands. He's a very physical player, very aggresive in front of the net, goal-scorer hands with a quick and accurate release. His skating is an issue for sure, but it looks like his desire to succeed may help overcome this, at least until he improves it a bit. He's in the Tocchet, Nolan etc style of player, there is definetly hope for a player like this. A couple of AHL seasons will probably be on the agenda, lets all hope that he can keep improving. Hope this helps a bit. Cheers

I like this kid a lot. He has improved dramatically each year in junior.
If memory serves, he was one of the last cuts before main camp this past summer. The way he's played this year he seems determined to take over Ward's spot on the Bulldogs next season.

Ferland wasn't out of place at the rookie tournament in Hull last September. I didn't find he was that bad a skater speed-wise but did need to work on his mobility and lateral movements.
Good size, decent talent and grit. You can never have enough of that kind of player.

Cool! thanks guys... I was just thinking... With the way his stats are, its not as if he's way off in terms of some key prospects I heard he had a strong camp, It just puzzled me why he went so low... (even third liners get drafted kinda high from what I see... ) Ferland to me has the stats of a 2/3rd round pick... I just thought something must've seriously been hindered in his style to go so low (esp. in a rather weak draft year) I hope he is a real player... based on what Ive read (from u guys) he's got some hope after all Do you guys have more hope for Ferland or Milroy?

Milroy is a better skater. Seems to me that hockey is played on ice and requires skating. Ferland is bigger and has a better attitude. Milroy has the intangible drive to win and has lead his clubs to success. We need them both. We need a power forward (Ferlad) more than a scoring forward (Milroy) but I think Milroy is the better prospect.

Milroy had that phenomanal playoffs last year... I think AS would be crazy to let this guy go... Ferland I'd like to see in the AHL next year...
We also got Ryder (if we dont clear out this summer) and Balej there next yea as well... thinking about it, we're loaded on the right side... yet it was the habs right wingers who disappointed this year with the big club. Czerk was a flop, Audi didnt recover from that wrist as well as hoped (till the end of the season), McKay was adding more spare parts on the shelf, Dackell was a shade of himself last year (as was Juneau). It got so bad that they switched Zednik over to the right side (he's better left). To have that many disappointments in one year, I think Savard has got to lose some of the top right and open up another slot. 2 guys would be good enough. I hope he trims the bad stuff, opens a slot for Ryder on the fourth, so that Balej, Ferland, and Milroy get enough playing time in the AHL next year.
Czerk would have some interest next year... He's in contract year.. Audette has little interest McKay looks tired out there Dackell was lollygagging
Ward looked good Ryder really impressed Balej was a bit disappointing (in a limited role) Milroy was great last year, and is currently doing pretty good (not as impressive as last year, but still a strong performance) Ferland(I read he's an overager... Good season, long look last year, Should have a contract in the A as well)

Bernier is what 17 ? Ferland is 20 ... I don't know if you really meant to compare them but Bernier really isn't in the same league than Ferland right now ... Actually Bernier is 18. I was struck by the statistical and physical similarity between the two. I can't wait to see Ferland in camp. He had a surprisingly good one last year, and followed it up with an exceptionally solid season. I won't cry bitter tears if the Habs announce that they have selected Bernier in the draft.

I believe that AS will be interested in signing him and filling some of the vacant spots in Hamilton this fall. He ended up in the top 20 scoring in the Q, seems to play that physical game (not enough of that going on in the Phone Booth these days), but the only knock is on his skating (based on all that I have read about him). Get him into Hamilton and see what he's made of.
